I don't know if it's because I use Choices fairly regularly for "sale" stuff, but it only came up as £42.84 when I ordered.

    Nice price indeed:smashin:

No, not at all! I wasn't looking for a large pat on the back!

I just thought I'd found a genuine bargain price for this set (Play for example are doing this for £69.99) and would generate more interest from Forum members.

I realise that some people have already pre-ordered the R1 set from DVD Soon when it was available for around £30-40, but I know some like myself may prefer the R2 or not have credit cards. I was quite surprised to see it at such a low price and thought others would be too.

Ah well, pardon me for using up the resources of this server. Perhaps I should have kept this one to myself! ;)

Well the new set contains two versions of each film -

the versions that are in the 4 disc Legacy set plus new cuts of ALIEN (which is getting a limited cinema release soon), ALIEN 3 (which supposedly restores the film closer to Fincher's original vision) & ALIEN: Resurrection (which I believe has, amongst other additions, a completely new opening & ending). The Quad Set will also contain the shorter, original theatrical version of ALIENS which has never been available on DVD before.

There are a great deal of new extras for each film, plus some older features that were produced at the time of the individual films release. I think there are also new commentary tracks for each of the 4.

No official specs have been announced yet by FOX, but so far there have been a hell of a lot of extra's passed at the BBFC for ALIENS and to a lesser extent ALIEN (which is perhaps understandable as the original disc was pretty packed already)

I'm the first to be wary of new editions of previously released DVD's, but I have 'double dipped' a number of times when it was obvious the new version was way better than the existing one and from the looks of things, this Quadrilogy Set falls into the latter.

Well it seems that they've added quite a bit to the ALIEN DVD - is there more of the Laserdisc material that was left off the original disc?

Good to see such a comprehensive list of features for ALIENS as it deserved better than it got for the first release.

Obviously more to come for ALIEN 3 & 4, as they will have to at least pass the new cuts of each - hopefully some more extra's for these, too. I know ALIEN 3 has its detractors, but I think it's an interesting - if flawed - piece of work and I can't wait to see what the new cut is like (rumoured to be at least 20mins longer): pity they couldn't persuade Fincher to get on board to supervise the edit and provide a commentary. Resurrection is a bit of a mish mash, but I'm a fan of Jeunet's other work and there are things in it I liked. I'd love to see some behind the scenes/development footage & the commentary may be insightful.

All in all I reckon it's shaping up to be one of the best box sets out there.

I would like to point out that the Alien boxset is released at a time when the Royal Mail take on a lot of temporary staff to cope with the Christmas post!

This is also the time when postal theft is at it's highest!

There's going to be a lot of FREE Alien Quadrilogy Boxsets,
sitting on the shelf, in temporary staff homes this Christmas!
