Great film no doubt, I do think though that Aliens bettered it by a hair, one of the few sequels to manage that. I could be in a minority on that one though

I like them both equally - they are so very different as Films, and so I never watch them back to back, but each one fits a different mood

      Thanks Simon nice Review

This is by far the best Alien film. Probably one of the best sci films ever. It has Suspense, Atmosphere great camera work realistic effects and a great Soundtrack and it looks amazing in HDR with amazing details

This is a 10 for me

Picked this up in the US last week for $14.99+tax in Best Buy so very happy. This and Aliens are two of my top two movies ever. I remember seeing Alien on a Ferguson Videostar VHS player in a dark room soon after in came out. It was amazing then and still is. The noise of Mother and background ship noises are so memorable.

      Thanks for the review Simon.
Watched the digi version last week and it does look gorgeous, so no doubt the disc adds again.

HDR10+, this is the first that’s left me a little annoyed that the majority of us can’t enjoy the dynamic version, but I guess an important move for the format.

The film is a classic and hoping the next two get the same treatment (yes, I do actually like Alien 3)!
Will purchase later down the line if they ever group them again.

In the case of Aliens, given that James Cameron's much demanded True Lies and The Abyss haven't seen even a Blu-ray release yet, I wouldn't expect a UHD release any time soon.

Sorry just wondering what the link between James Cameron and Alien is as Alien is a Ridley Scott film?

when he over saw the remaster for Aliens surely that was a 4k master they used for the HD BLU so hopefully it wont need his consent. Could be grain fest though as the stock used to film Aliens was a bit of a dog.

Watched this last night. While no doubt this is the best it has ever looked it was for me just a decent increase in 4K nothing spectacular picture wise. The HDR did improve things and was probably the biggest increase in picture quality. Regarding the film itself I have seen it so many times over the years and its still as good as ever. I think personally one of the reasons this film is so good is not just Ridley's directing and the slow burn the movie has but also the quality of the actors and how serious they took this movie. You have Ian Holm, John Hurt, Tom Skerritt, Harry Dean Stanton and of course Sigourney. All very very good actors and they took the part so seriously that you really do feel the sense of dread through out the movie just from there acting and that alone is something that I feel is missing in a lot of recent horror movies. It also reminds me of Jaws in a way that what you don't see is so much more scary than in your face monsters.

Back in the day ('86) I saw Aliens in 70mm at the Odeon in Marble Arch. It was so good I went back the next day and watched it again. Best cinema visit ever - I'll not forget what an incredible experience it was......

It was the 80's version of iMax.

Fox Studio are supporting HDR-10+,whereas Apple Support DV,but its the Apple 4K TV box that does the DV conversion,so i would say Fox supplied Apple with an HDR-10+,then the Apple box would then convert to DV.

No,every HDR disc come with HDR-10 as well as some with DV or HDR-10+,all players & 4K HDR TV support HDR-10,so you don't have to buy another player to play your 4K HDR Discs :)

I’m sure my HDR banner came on when watching via iTunes and not DV, so I think this is HDR all round.

Is it actually playing with DV? The listing on iTunes says 4K HDR. Without purchasing it I cannot check that

Side Note: Got caught out with version differences - as most ATV owners know, if a film you've bought in HD gets upgraded to 4K, your version on ATV gets upgraded as well for free. I was hoping my copy would get upgraded, but I have "The Directors Cut" & this is the "40th Anniversary Edition".
      NO UPGRADE FOR ME! :nono:

That's interesting - I thought HDR-10+ & DV were very different, so that the ATV would just default to showing the core HDR-10 4K version

It was definitely only HDR for me last week on iTunes as I checked to see if the disc came with DV and was surprised to read it was HDR10+ only.
It also states on iTunes HDR and not DV.

I feel you brother. Alien is my favourite film of all time and a bit of an obsession with me. Having ordered the steelbook of the 4K disc, I smugly thought that my trusty iTunes version would upgrade a couple of weeks early. Sadly, no. A few folk have pointed out that Sony's Spider-man 2 did a similar thing, only for all the version to upgrade to 4K at a later date.

Given that the current cost of the 4K iTunes version is less than the cost of a kebab, I might be tempted just to get it anyway. Sad git that I am.

That screen was huge back in the day before they turned it into a multiplex.
