Alexander is due for release soon but there seems to be a few different versions. Does anyone know the difference between the Theatrical Cut and Directors cut?
I am looking to get a region 2 disc.

    Cheers :D

Ooooooooooh a simple question without a simple answer.

Theatrical release is about 173 mins long and is the version at the cinema.

Directors cut is 168 minutes long - but it isn't just 5 minutes shorter. Scenes have been cut, cropped, inserted and generally changed. Apparently there's less of the homosexual relationship references for starters.

Extras wise - I've seen 2 conflicting reports - the DC may be the only one with commentary track but that's just the start of the conflicts! DC may also be 2 disks not 1 as well - but the extras on the Theatrical release aren't duplicated in the DC (according to Empire I think it was).

Personally I've got the Theatrical release from Korea and have ordered the R1 Theatrical also - but I'll be reviewing the R1 DC (Shhhhh don't tell anyone).

    Seth :hiya:

Cheers for the explanation. Why dont they bring out a version with both directors and Theatrical. Or will they do that in 6 months time and call it the Ultimate edition :suicide:

    :D

i would imagine that Ladbrokes wouldn't give you very good odds on that. Limited Ultimate Directors Anniversary Theatrical edition will be with us before we know it. :D

I don't know about the R2 releases but I thought the R1 Theatrical and Director's Cut sets were both 2-disc and had identical extras? I also (assumed) the DC would have a specific commentary.

AFAIK the R1 releases are both 2 disks and same extras - but I can't verify until I have them :)

The R2 differences were what Razor was asking about - hence my comments, based on the review in Total Film.
