I just watched Alexander, what a pile of poo.How does the man who directed Wall Steet and JFK manage to get it so wrong.

I had heard this film was bad but as I like sword and sandal movies I had to rent it.The film is the directors cut and I think that just about sums it up.I think the film was cut into little pieces then joined up again in no particular order. The irish accents of the actors were just awfull and Angelina Jolie sounded like an russian speaking english. How did they manage to create such a piece of sh*t?.

    Belive me it is!!!!!!!!!

The battle scenes were the only redeming parts, and considering he conquered almost all the known world at the time, were brief out of a film 2hrs 40mins long.

Not trying to have a dig at at the fact you liked it, just interested in what aspects of the film you found good.

    :hiya:

I didnt want to see this movie at all. But I ended up enjoying it.

I cant say what made me like the movie, I just did. The irish accents were stupid and it could of been done allot better but never the less I still had fun.
I guess I didn't expect to much from this movie so I wasn't let down in any way. :nono:

Angilina Jolie was nice eye candy.

I *loved* it, but I'm Ollie Stone Fanboy #1.

I thought it was a wonderful, spectacular failure - which is exponentially more interesting than an unremarkable "success".

Bl**dy hell, I'm starting to feel seriously out-gunned in the smilie department. I thought the jaw-dropper was bad enough.

Dude, the story is great! its just that Mr stone didn't tell that story, he told a story of a man looking for acceptance from his father. not the story of a man who conquered the known world. If you sat and watched this rubbish you wouldn't walk away thinking that you have just watched the life of one of the greatest military tactions who ever lived. the first battle hints at it - but by the end of it you get the impression that Alexander has cocked it up when he'd done anything but.

Mrs D is a big historian and she spent most of the movie sniggering :D

one day a great movie will be made about Alexander the great but this isn't it.

I can see where your coming from Gary. [IMG] This movie is a long way off being great. I still enjoyed it just like I enjoy movies like swordfish, i-robot, ID4 etc... I would class this movie as a popcorn movie [IMG]

It should of been a great moive  with the budget and cast but it only manages a popcorn rating, which is still ok. :D

How do you rate this to Troy?

i think its worse than Troy. i saw try and the cinema and loved it, when i rewatched it on DVD i thought it was really bad. Although at least Troy and Diane Kruger  and a really cool fight fight between Achilles and Hector.
but i'd rather watch Troy than Alexander.

i love Mr Stones work indeed JFK would be one of my desert island movies :smashin:

As a historical reference this film is a 4 out of 10. The ideals, the war strategist and the personal perspective have been barely scratched
As a film this is a 3 out of 10. Acting poor - accents oh dear. Anthony hopkins ( An actor I admire tremendously) as Socrates very bad. Ms Jolie phwooar, but inevetibly thats about it. The cinematography was average and soundtrack as well..
I have been reading Alexanders biographies, historical references and novelisations for some time. And this film has been a total let down. What happened to the Oliver Stone we use to like? 3.5 out of 10 IMO
Is Baz Luhrmann still directing his version?

I can snigger at the factual inaccuracies all the way through JFK and Nixon - doesn't mean they're not great films...

They're supposed to be pieces of CINEMA! Not documentaries...

Thats a good point - well made! Alexander is NOT great cinema.

You may notice that i never said it was factually incorrect - i said that he told the wrong story IMO. He told the soap opera and not the epic.
