Aldi Titanium MD8385 any thoughts?

    Hello,

    All, first post and most probably not the last!

    Just noticed this on the Aldi site (yes, another classic from Aldi! :eek: ) for next Thursday. Seems like a good spec for an HTPC.

    What modifications do you think this would need if any? Do you all think this is a good deal for £499?

    Hi and welcome to AVForums!!! The Alsi seems pretty good only real concern is the 6200 which would share your system memory meaning that if it is allocated 256 you will only be left with 256 for the system. In addition I havn't heard much positive about the 6200 chipset as it is; it really is a cut down GPU which might be a problem with Hi-Def material.

    Also I would never trust a claim such as whisper quiet as I tend to find that prebuilt units (other than Dell) are far from it in general. Are you planning to use MCE which would incur a further cost, also worth checking that MCE drivers are available for the digital tuner. There are front end alternatives that will probably work with it anyway. Not sure about Medion Home Cinema XL but it might be very capable on it's own.
