I personally think it's a very good price, you certainly get a lot for the money. But that is the point really. Do you need a TV/Raddio Card? Would you ever use the 120Gb disk (I would, I'd swap disks with my Tivo!). Expansion could be problem as I believe there are not many, if any spare PCI slots. There are no spare Drive Bays either.

By te time you add a monitor (TFT?) you are spending nearly a grand!

It's overspecced for my needs although it appears to be without a floppy drive ( i still use them ) and it also appears not to have a spare bay for one either ( that can be overcome using a usb drive which raises the cost a bit more).

I am using the predessor to this machine, brought last year, which is very similar apart from not having the remote and DVD burner and have had no trouble with it although I have not yet tried the TV facilities. Mine is supposed to be able to act as a Hard disk video recorder but haven't tried this either. The case looks the same as mine which has a floppy bay further down behind the sliding front panel. I added a floppy and one extra hard disk drive and have not encountered any overheating problems although it was necessary to get a floppy data cable and longer hard drive data cables as the ones in the case would not reach all the drives. Note that black colour floppy drives tend to cost more than the cream ones, mine costing me £20. and you will need to find the right screws to fix the drive with, usually advailable from a good computer shop. It makes a good games machine, running BF1942 with no problems and sounds great through the 6-channel speakers also purchased from Aldi.I went for the 19" CRT monitor as I am still waiting for the right (cheap) 17" LCD panel to appear. All in all a good buy and better than anything those Time people could come up with. :smashin:

Funny enought they had a guy from a computer mag on Talk Sport this morning saying what a great deal this was, they've just reviewed it and given it the buig thumbs up. Good quality components well matched was his view, and the parts bought individually would cost much more than the system. Can't remember which mag it was though.

    Cheers

    Thanks Lynx.
I must admit I only asked in the first store about availability and they said they didn't have any.... the following 3 stores all had loads of people queuing with their weekly shopping (and each Aldi store only seems to have a couple of staff on duty!).
Plenty of 5.1 speaker systems in stock if anyone's interested, plus 19 inch monitors.
I'll go on another expedition to Aldi on Monday :suicide:

I also tried to get one this morning, but was told that the shops all sold out in 20 mins people were lined up long before the shop opened.Wow that was a fasssssssst machine. I was a little reluctant regarding the ordering because i was told it could take upto 8 weeks, and a lot can happen in 8 weeks. When i was in the shop, i noticed that the ordering form for this stated that the machine you recieve will be the same (or better) than the one on the promotion......

    All the best.....Splice. ;)

I went back to my 'local' Aldi store again (a 50 mile round trip) and was told by staff that stores had been instructed by their head office NOT to take orders for this latest PC offer.

Given the full page offers in the national pres, plus articles in magazines, I really do think that Aldi should have been better stocked. However, you'll find it difficult to complain to their head office as no contact details are available. I'm going to drop 'Computer Active' an email to see if they can get a response out of them.
