what a dilema, I bought an iscan hd+ 6 months ago along with super quality hdmi and vga leads (from joe, nice man) and ordered an hd7 from alastair, well i got cold feet over sky hd and the lack of 50hz support so i cancelled the hd7 and said id wait for the hd8 :D
I even decorated and put all the cables in the walls (brick walls chased with a grinder) including 9 speakers !
Im only weeks away from the hd8 and Alistar puts on offer the 50 inch hd7 at a silly price, not only that but reports of these dvi to vga converters are popping up everywhere saying that they work very well

He is trying to tempt me !!

and its so easy to think of reasons to fall down on either side of this choice
    42phd8 or 50phd7

    my head hurts

eeeeek how expensive would that be 50phd8

is the true 16/9 pixel ratio of the 50's important or just distracting me

You would be mad not to go for the 50" I reckon, if I could get reasonable money for my 42HD6 I would get one tomorrow.

Depends what price the 50HD8 is though, I reckon it will be under £3200 by xmas.

    By xmas !!!!

I cant wait any longer, its been 6 months already.

I agree the 50 inch is an amazing offer but .................

its silver, the 8 series has discreet on and off and source ir codes, more gray levels more colours and the buttons underneath.

what would make this easier would be dates and prices of the uk models, and an idea how long the offer 50" will last, overlap of the two could be handy.

The only plus side of being so indicisive is the prices keep coming down ;)

more colours and grey scale mean nothing really. 1,024 shades of grey has enough capability to deliver anything that's in video with something to spare. just look at the new samsung panels the colours and shades are overkill does it make it that much better then the panasonics?

Wow av sales are selling the 50" PHD7 for £2874 with free wall mount or desk stand and dual slot input board.
Do i wait for the PHD8 or save a few quid and go for the deal?????

I was going to add a scaler with the phd8, but would have no choice with the phd7 because of the 50hz compatability issue with the upcoming sky hd.
I dont watch much sport, mainly films and a few programs so would i notice much judder with the frame rate converting from 50hz to 60hz?

I can't stand FRC, however nearly all plasmas seem to convert back to their native refresh anyway, where as the Panasonic does not, so by adding a scaler you are only making the Panasonic behave like most other plasmas when converting HD to 60Hz.

You could also convert 720p to 576p and keep the 50hz.

But surely if i was to do that then there would be no point in getting sky hd in the first place?

There was a post on the www.ntsc-uk.com forums titled "Do we really need Hi-Def?"

Alot of people were saying that they prefered there old crt image to their new digital display, and would sacrifice poor digital images to keep the nice crisp crt image. A few people were asking if HD would actually look better on say a 480 line res display as it was down scaled, this was my answer.....

    Does that makes sense?
