Aladdin Review & Comments

Aladdin (1992) runtime - 90 minutes

Aladdin (2019) runtime - 128 minutes

Presumably everything stops so they can watch an episode of Breaking Bad in that extra 38 minutes?

It'll be that extra song.

It has a certain charm, Will Smith is much better than I expected, overall as you say a pleasant surprise

Kumari spot on again. Pleasant surprise, charmingly clumsy. The prince meeting the sultan scene was hilarious. Will Smith was great fun and I liked the romance and chemistry between the two leads. Naomi Scott is super gorgeous, not a bad actress and really can belt out a tune. She gets a proper 'Frozen' moment. She's definitely the centerpiece of the film.

CG is a little iffy at times, as is some of the acting, and the climax was like something out of The Mummy francise. But Agrabah looks beautiful, and all the costumes and sets are suitably lavish. Good fun. 7/10

Yep solid 7 for me too. Colourful, funny (Smith def the MVP), loved the big Prince Ali musical number. It’s all more or less as you’d expect. The beefed up Jasmine role made sense and fitted perfectly with the film. Would’ve been an 8, but Jafar didn’t turn into a giant snake at the end !

Nice review Kumari. I must say that I was not overly enamoured to learn about a live action remake of another Disney classic - I thought Favreau’s Jungle Book was the epitome of “meh” and that the original knocked spots off it. However, having seen a couple of trailers of 2019 Aladdin, I did get positive vibes which made me think that it was something I wouldn’t mind watching.

I think the best comment I've seen regarding this was that the poster looked like it was a porn parody!

We saw it today with the kids. I think we all loved it. The extra running time over the original wasn't an issue and never felt like padding. The cast all played their parts to a good standard or better, especially the three main leads and Jafar. The songs were excellent and the scenery eye-popping in its colour and vibrancy. I'd agree the CG got a little ropey for Abu at times.
Of the three versions we've seen (original animation, West End Musical and new live action), I think this is my favourite.
And for me it's better than either the recent Beauty & The Beast or Cinderella live action films.
An 8/10 for me.

Wow what a great film!! Loved it from start to finish. It’s no surprise the 94% of people who ACTUALLY watched this film thought it was great. The trailers are rubbish compared to the real thing.

Stop comparing the the animated genie to the live action genie ‍♂️ they are two completely different things. Robin Williams was great as the genie and will Smith is Also great as the genie but I’m sure it’s harder to play the live action genie than the animated one because the animated is only the voice whereas the live action genie takes a lot more acting. Naomi Scott and Mena Massoud played jasmine and Aladdin very well with great chemistry and very good acting, lots of funny scenes too Overall I give it a solid 9 out of 10

While people who haven’t seen the film keep putting it down, Disney enjoying the success of the film from satisfied customers who actually bought tickets. It’s ok to have an opinion when you’ve seen the film but on here it seems all the negative comments are from people who haven’t seen it ‍♀️

I haven't seen the film, but neither have I expressed an opinion on it, I will do this when/if I do see it. Mine was a throw-away comment regarding the runtime, meant as what I though was an obvious joke.

I saw this film over the weekend and i thought it was garbage ..with the ropey special effects and out of tune singing..my kid seemed to like it but it was excruciating for me ...

Yeah solid 7.5/10 for me.

Original is my favourite Disney film so was never going to top that but it was a perfectly serviceable adaptation.

Will Smith and Naomi Scott were really good in their roles as Genie and Jasmine.

Finally caught this - and for me, it's the best live-action Disney conversion so far.

All the cast are great, I love the original so I already love the songs and Will Smith is actually great as the genie. Yes, there are some slightly dodgy CGI moments when he's blue, but the whole thing is surprisingly well done.

I still prefer the original (as is always the case with these), but this proved to be highly enjoyable.

The autotune in this is awful, at times a nice & colourful film but sometimes the CGI and acting is a bit shoddy.

I'd give it a 5/10
