You haven't been blunt enough, it's a pish release.I have the Japanese release of this and to be blunt, I thought it looked pretty weak. Very soft, very noisy, lots of print damage (!!) and outside of a few headlights non existent HDR. it was still better than the old BD, but that's really not saying much.
I love the movie, I'd put it in my top 10 of all time l but I thought this disc, at least the Japanese version of it, was simply not worth the money.
Don't be to quick to accept that email as gospel. I got email saying my cookbook (released today) was being delivered 12th Jan. It promptly arrived today. Was looking forward to watching this on Monday, but made the mistake of ordering it from Amazon.
Got an email from them yesterday - "Your order will arrive on 23rd January 2021".
Marvellous...
Cas, you didn't mention whether the Japanese Dolby True-HD track is the same 'ultrasonic' 24-but 192Hz one which graced the blu-ray, and sounds utterly superior in every way to the lesser English track?
For all the people saying this is overpriced, we've got things pretty good in the West.
UHD disc prices in stores in Japan are astronomical !
Akira UHD for example is 9100y, which is around £70. That's a pretty standard retail price for a UHD over there - stuff like the BTTF trilogy is about £115. Star Wars box set? £360....
£35 for one of my favourite childhood movies in remastered 4K and nice packaging - no problem with that at all.
£35 did seem a good uk price! After amazon messed my order up I found a seller on ebay who’s an official distributor. All copies sold now though by looks of it.Agreed, Japan does seem to have it worse than most with regards to BR, UHD BR and even DVD RRP.
If you managed to score Akira 4K for £35 then you are doing well. My opinion on this seemingly being overpriced (but agreed, not nearly as bad as the Japanese price) was based on the rrp of £45 (and even £50 from likes of HMV, Zavvi, Zoom et al).
