You're doing things the wrong way round.
You find out which players actually produce a decent picture and sound and which may have hacks and THEN you go out and purchase the kit.
The wrong way to do it is to see a player in a shop, think 'mmm that looks ok, and I can afford it - I'll buy it'.
    Oh well maybe next time.
With regard to the hack, I don't think there is one.

The only hack found so far is as follows (but region 1 in B&W):

"This is not a multiregionhack, however it will allow you to play copied disks.

The bad news is that when the player is powered down you have to re do the hack.

    1. Unplug the XR_DV701 from the electrical outlet.

    2. Press the DVD/CD button while plugging the unit.

** Do not let go of the DVD/CD button **

    3. While holding the DVD/CD button, Hold the FastForward (>>)Button.

    4. The LCD Screen changes to show S46 M00

    5. Play your copy"
