    Hi,

New to the forum here. I have been working with the AIW for about 2 weeks, and I seemed to be having some success with video captures using the TV and a modified VCD template (as in Lordsmurf's reccomendations), but lately I have started dropping lots of frames. The capture starts out fine, but after about 2 minutes, it turns into a slide show.

I have always had problems with the general use of the TV. It locks up often after starting or stopping a recording.

Now I have found out that I am not able to capture a still. I have tried all the settings in the Stills Gallery tab, but just cannot get any still capture. Maybe I do not understand how to use this feature?

I am running the latest update MMC V9.0,
    P4 2.5GHz 512MB RAM 160MB WD HD

At the moment, all I can think about was the frustration I had with the
3dfx VooDoo 3500 TV capture card.

Does this card actually work? So far I feel pretty upset and dissapointed.

Dropped frames during video capture are a very common problem, but there are a good few easy steps to take to prevent them.

Make sure your HDD is set to 'DMA enabled'
Make sure you have plenty of space on the HDD and it is defragmented
Disable screen savers and power save modes.
Stop all background programs such as antivirus (you'll be amazed at just how many there are!). I use a free program called EndItAll (do a search for it) to stop them all.

There are a few others that at 03:30 in the morning just escape me. I'm sure others will fill in the gaps at a more social hour.

    Hope This Helps,
    Mark.

ps Welcome to the forum :hiya:

Thanks for that information. My system is basically a fresh install of XP Pro, no other programs running and the startup is stripped of all non-essential background routines (although I have tried various configurations).

I may be having some other sort of PC problem or program configuration error since the first capture trial I did was at the DVD preset in MMC TV, and I do not recall any dropped frames. Performance in this respect seems to be steadily decreasing until now it is unusable. It just seems that something got switched wrong.

I am still curious about the program crashing and the still image capture? Is this behaviour just unique to my system?
