That chip cannot decode HD only MPEG2 MP@ML and MPEG4 AS5@ML.

    Many thanks scumball,

I am very new to HD and I am afraid I cannot understand MPEG2 MP@ML and MPEG4 AS5@ML. Are you saying it can't display HD at all, or it can display HD from MPEG2 MP@ML and MPEG4 AS5@ML?

    Many thanks again.

Yep - you need MP@HL or MP@H-14 (which is the 1440x1080 capable version) for HD, MP@ML is SD only.

If the player only does MP@ML it won't cope with MPEG2 resolutions higher than 720x576/720x480.

There are a number of hardware solutions based on certain Sigma chips that will only replay source material that is in standard def, but will output these scaled to HD, even though they can't replay HD material.

(The Sigma Designs XCard does this - it only replays 720x576 or below resolution video - but will output this at 1080i or 720p as well as common VGA resolutions)
