    What is your budget?
    Upto £600 – 800 ish

What size laptop do you want?

    13 – 14 ish
    Do you have resolution requirements?
something reasonable +…realise am looking at mid range spec at this price

Do you prefer a matte or glossy (reflective) screen?
    pref not too reflective..
What will you be using the laptop for?
general – eg internet, email, skype, bit of vids / you tube etc, work and business useage (docs, need to log in to work via remote desktop – hence Win8 Pro), MUST be able to use language software (on DVD ROM) - ? poss via external opt drive / virtual cd
If you will be gaming, what games do you need to play?
    nothing hardcore !
How long does the battery need to last?
Needs to be reasonable, but don’t anticipate being away from power supply for too long
Does it need to be portable?
fairly – around house, occasionally to work – definitely looking forward to something sleeker and lighter than current breeze block old, dying Dell

    Do you require Blu-Ray?

Be nice..but guessing not poss (likely to be an ultrabook ?)

    Do you require HDMI output?

? to connect to TV ? not essential
Do you have a preferred brand?
Have always bought Dell – but have an open mind – liking idea of being able to return to somewhere purchased locally if any probs...(PC Wld, John Lewis ??) but not ruling anything out

Are there brands you would prefer to avoid?
anything that’s no good ! have not been considering Asus, Toshiba, Acer (?) – I have no experience of brands other than Dell ... Am considering elsewhere this time as don’t want to have to grow old on phone to support if problems occur...would rather take back to local shop if poss.
Would you be happy with a refurbished laptop?
    No

Anything else you can think of...
Minimum of i5 processor, 6 GB RAM min, 500 min HD (pref with some SSD), webcam, USB connection if no optical drive
Definitely want Win 8 Pro (for remote desktop connection?)
Definitely want touchscreen for use with Win 8
Open minded between ultrabook, newer form factors (tab / laptop hybrids etc) but most out of price range
Have always gone with the ‘best spec can afford’ approach – BUT this time aiming for mid-range, on basis only likely to last 2 – 4 yrs max then be replaced (existing laptop 6 yrs old, but cost £1200+)
Have considered MS Surface Pro etc – but more expensive with less capacity...happy to sacrifice a degree of ‘whizziness’ for better functionality / storage..anything neater will be massive improvement on current machine...
Have looked at current Samsung offering (NP540U3C-AO1U - Series 5, 13.3touchscreen – John Lewis selling for £749.99 but want to add £80.00 to upgrade to Win8 Pro – price then up over £800 – therefore may be other machines to consider)
Not finding too many Win8 Pro touchscreen options…without spending £1000+
Any advice would be appreciated – going round in circles at the moment!
    Thanks
