    Hi all

A sad day but i guess it was going to happen at some point. After having Sky since 1998 and always being one of the first for Sky+ and Sky HD I decided i wasn't getting enough from it for £65 a month. So as of today i have no more Sky ;-( they weren't that interested in keeping me either, not a single phone call since i cancelled 3 weeks ago. Guess the recession hasn't hit Sky yet!

Guess i'll just have to wait for 3D and save up the £800 a year until then ;-)

    Ben

    :(

Give them a little more time. Maybe they are just calling your bluff. You could always just have a smaller channel package. I decided to dump sports and movies and that saves quite a bit. Dumping one or the offer doesn't do much..

Switched mine off 8-10 weeks ago and no calls and again been with them for years, last bill was £85/month.
I have no regrets in doing it and realise now just what I was getting for my money = NOT A LOT. When you consider how old the films are when they hit the Movie packages you can get them for between £2 and £5 in Asda's, as for the footy well my local is doing better business. So all in all I get to buy the films, keep them and socialise down the local for sport and in general I save money.

Personally I am far happier without SKY.

Of course you are. That's why you are posting on a SKY forum.

The reason SKY charge what they charge is because it does represent value for money. Would customers pay it otherwise? No. You shouldn't confuse expensive with value for money.

Don't cut off your nose to spite your face. :suicide:

Say you watch on average 2 films per week = 8 month and a film costs £4 in Asda that is £32 a month on films.

As for the football there's at least 3 games a week (not including the champions league) Each game is on for 2 hours. which is probs at least 3 pints for the time your there.

Even at £2 a pint 2 x 3 = £9 a visit to the pub each time you go to watch 1 game.

If you watch just 6 games a month and watch 5 films there is your £85.

And that's before you even take into account all the other things on tv that your not getting to watch.

Sure your socialising but your probably not saving. I bet if you honestly added up what your now spending for entertainment a month not including what you would have spent on going out etc anyway i bet it would come to more than £85 a month.

    2 x 3 = 9 LOLOL

You won't save him any money ;)

On topic, I agree that sky is good value for me but it isn't for everyone. Even if it does work out more expensive, if he's happy that's what counts.

Plus spening a few quid down the local and supporting the supermarket etc will do our economy good instead of giving it to sky.

Customers pay it because they have no choice. For premiership football SKY have a virtual monopoly.

DVDs and CDs have been a rip off in this country for years and yet people pay for them.

I reckon ITV Sport is paying you!! The number of threads where you mention the HD football is unbelievable. Oh well, only a couple of months of the season left.

Shame that ITV are down to only one CL match per week next season.

No ITV sport is not paying me....and im not paying them either:D

Im just very impressed with the free service I get. I will recommend it to people who have ditched sky sports. Why shouldnt I? Its not like im even advising them to cancel sky, they already have.

They only show one champions league game on ITV HD per week anyway???

Why only one in HD? I thought ITV had the rights to two matches per week. Do they only bother showing one in HD? Not very good is it? Surely if the other match is on ITV2 or 3 or 4, they could still 'red button' it in HD?

Yep only one a week I think.

But they also show FA CUP and england games and major tournaments like euro 2008 when they are on.

    Fantastic free service.

There are ways to save fortunes. Watch streaming football matches online, Premiership and Champions league. There are also plenty of p2p sites for getting films well before they come out on sky, all for the cost of your broadband package. I have had to cut costs and this is the road i have gone down.

Yep I totally agree. I watch films in HD the day after they are shown on HDTV or released on bluray. I also watch any premiership games I want on p2p. All completely free.

People can take the moral high ground if they like, but I just chuckle that they pay sky 56 quid a month and I dont.

    I havent rented a DVD for years:D

So you are admitting to, and advocating piracy?

No. Piracy would involve the selling of copyrighted material. Nobody in the p2p, torrent game is making a profit from sharing films.

What I am admitting to is downloading films from other people for free, not illegal, technically a copyright infringement but people commit those all the time. Lending a DVD to your mate is no different if it stops him buying the DVD.

well if you are going to advocate illegal sharing of copyright material, then I think any discussions regarding the value of Sky HD compared to Freesat HD and ITV HD are totally irrelevant.

Why are you so vehomently promoting the benefits of Freesat HD and ITV HD when you download everything illegally anyway?

Why did you even bother getting Freesat is everything is available to you illegally anyway?

Although downloading is not illegal, uploading is and if you participating in torrents or p2p in a full manner you are uploading.

It isnt illegal. Its a civil copyright infringement matter which will never be actioned. We all commit copyright infringements.

Copyright infringement is illegal it is breaqking civil law. Illegal is defined as breaking a law whether that is civil or criminal law.

No, illegal means it breaks criminal law. You have committed copyright infringements yourself.

You seem to be deluding yourself that copyright infringment is somehow OK and you are doing nothing wrong.

Anyway, legality aside, aren't your arguements about the merits of Freesat made somewhat worthless by your claims to download everything for free anyway?

Why do you keep saying how good ITV HD football is, if you can watch it on P2P for free as you claim?

Now that your arguement has changed to everything is "free via the internet" I am at a loss to understand your staunch defence of Freesat.

I cannot watch ITV HD free on p2p. I have a broadband connection of up to 8 meg. I get about 6.5 meg usually. That isnt enough for HD football even if someone could upload it, I dont think they could.
