I thank You
Very fine! Seems to be a decent competetor to the Z2, better in fact due to the smoothscreen tech. Now I just want to see both in action and spend some hard earned... any ideas as to ETA for either yet? Its getting darker earlier and I need something cheer me up
As predicted in this thread........ .
Nice to see confirmation from Kaneda.
A Panny AE500/ Sanyo Z2 shootout should be interesting (as should pricing - Sanyo have set the stage here...)
Interesting that it still has Smoothscreen, I would have thought the higher resolution would have made screendoor less of a concern.
Everything else is very similar to the Z2 (probably using the same panels as each other again? ).
Pricing is quoted at ~$2200
And ... No SD card reader! Oh the shame...
Yip, 1280x720 at normal seating distance should be fine...... but there's a number of other issues....... not everyone is a fan of highly digital-looking images - clearly the many ae300 owners like it well enough; from picture I've seen, the AE500 looks like it's in a very similar casing to AE300... Panny are likely carying over as much existing technology as they can, similar to Sony with HS3/HS20 - good business practice; there's also the issue of marketing and having something that other sellers don't have.
Would love to see one - should be a blast !
Do I detect signs of wavering and moving toward a replacement pj. Surely not
Still "stumbling along" at 480p resolution !!!!! this years ht budget has gone on amp upgrade (not to the dizzy heights of the 3803 or A1 brigade, I might add !), a couple of nice back Lazeboys, and interior upgrade to fabric walls and custom lighting currently at the planning stage.
Quite happy to continue this way for now - have seen HT1000 in my own movie room - compliments of Kramer and Vex - and was mightily impressed by the performance, though not by the degree of offset; no doubt if I were adopting that route I would find a suitable install arrangement. Not affected by rainbows or fatigue at all, which was a relief if I ever wanted to go DLP - Mrs. Ritz had a look and was similarly impressed - a seriously good image, blacks and shadow detail a revelation.
AE100 continues to do the job, though AE500/Z2 1280x720 at prices now being proposed is extremely tempting.
All the best,
Hmm not sure about the modulated lamp output. If its just a case of dropping the lamp brightness when its a dark shot I'd be a little concerned about what happens to the peak whites in the scene. Also I wouldn't expect the bulb to last long if its got a varying voltage going through it and I suspect the ramping up and down of the bulb would be visible in certain instances,
Conversely it might be an additional LCD panel that functions as a lowlight pass reinforcing the opaqueness in the dark areas with a dithered falloff into the midtones. Someone else suggested this in another thread and I suggested it about two years ago!"
This could work as long as the doubled up off transparency of the LCD panels doesn't compromise the peak output of the lamp too much.
Calibos - you rock
...but i just bought an AE300...
.......and hopefully if you've paid the going 1250 ish then you'd be waiting along time before an AE500 hits that price. Just enjoy the next 6 months - in this game at present, 12 months is a products shelflife, you'll always be faced with a newer model just round the corner!
i have a ptae at the moment which i paid £1500 last year
i an up to 2500 hrs on it and fancy an a300 so i hope next year with the a500 comming i can pick up an a300 for around £1000 or less, the ptae200 is on about £700 at some places at the moment and i am very tempted by that. Do you think the ptae will come down oin price much when the a500 is released?
AE500 now listed on Kakaku.com, on sale from 10 October - check it out translated here (hope it works !!)
Pricejapan now listing the Sony HS3 (HS20 shouldn't be too far behind) but no listing for AE500 yet.
Going by PJs own calculation method, at a price of 208000 yen, allowing for 5% tax, .7% shipping insurance, and 5% "commission", we should be looking at a Europe price of about 245600 yen, gives a UK price of about £1300 (!) - plus 17.5% VAT, £1527.
Euro price (no vat included) should be about 1900 euros.
thats not half bad now......
Up on pricejapan..... $1980 estimate to be confirmed october 3rd. Then as soon as someone can confirm 1:1 mapping and that it isnt a total dud...... i'll be getting one
this may sound silly...but what happened to a ae400 model?
Just to whet your appetite further.......
1st screenshot !!!!!
(from myav.com.tw, posted by LiOn on avsforum...)
Things is hotting up !!
there is speculation that the 400 will be to the 500 what the 200 was to the 300..... if you catch my meaning.
In an earlier thread on the AE500, linked above in this thread, I posted the contents of an email from Dan Clawson (Avritz.com, clawdaddy on avsform). He had been informed of this development, and indicated that the AE400 will be the new version of the AE300 - 960x540.
I guess we'll have to wait and see how the full model line-up turns out. It is reasonable to assume that we'll see some discounting of existing AE300 stocks if the AE400 comes to market.
A report from Cedia on hometheaterhifi.com ( link posted by PaulB on this forum) was quite complimentary about the AE500.
are there any reports of when it will officially hit the UK and at what level?
Can I ask a dumb newbie question?
Will we ever get an affordable projector from panasonic that will be in true WSXGA (1920 -1080p) an AE700 perhaps?!
id guess 2 years looking at the current trend
Going on the AE300 lead time for Europe, it'll probably be next year (Jan/Feb) before it hits the streets. Price is a harder one to figure - if Sanyo agressively market the Z2 in Europe (sub 2000 euro prices), then an AE500 price at around the current AE300 pricing might be a reasonable expectation.
The price disparity between the SE200 and AE300 (1067 and 1864 euros on Komplett at the mo') would suggest that the AE300 price will fall to about 1500 euros and the AE500 come in at about 2000 euros. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
Can't wait to see what the first reviews are like - some early adopters over on avsforum should be the first source of info.
All the best,
id actually like one now! grrrrrr id buy from japan but then if i dont like it i guess i cant sell...... oh dear decisions decisions!
So why wait? Grab yourself the king of LCD PJs - a HS10
I reckon these are going to climb in price in the coming months as demand exceeds supply (no longer available you see).
A definite investment I'd say. Still nothing to better it in the resolution stakes (apart from Sony's own Qualia).
Contrast ratio, contrast ratio, contrast ratio, blacks, blacks, blacks....... 27db 27db 27db..........
....................it's not all about pixel counting...............!!!!!!!!!
Will you be tempted by a HS20 ???
hs10 is too much...... well unless you get the 1300 refurbs..... but id think the hs20 would be better to wait on plus im indecisive and who knows what i'll do with my money! HEHE
I think I will wait for the ae500 to be £700 in 2 years time at komplett
Nice pic from your link sean, oh for contrast like that
The usual caveats about screenshots are always in mind, but it does look brill..........
Pricejapan now accepting pre-orders for the AE500, $1835 delivered to Europe............... no longer taking orders for the AE300................... I wonder is the AE300 (or a 960x540 replacement..... AE400 ??) going to stay in the Panasonic model line-up....
The AE500 is coming on stream at the same price (more or less) as the AE300 on pricejapan.................... any bets on discounted AE300s becoming available after Christmas......
Separate names with a comma.
