From AV-land. Short supply apparantly.
are these official!? Others have implied stocks arent due yet..... so are these grey imports?
well....seems likes they are saying they r getting them in early FEB, but you have to pre-order now.
So, the UK once again gets a product later than everywhere else, and at £300 more? Unless other etailers undercut that buy another £200, looks like I'll be sourcing mine from Germany. At a saving of at least £200, it's easily worth the risk offset of possibly having to return if problems arise. Heck, you could probably return it to Germany 4 times over at your own cost, and still have wound up paying less.
im thinking that price is the full rrp but im not paying that for it when it is so cheap everywere else in the world and we get it last.
Is anywhere else selling them yet?
Are they actualy in stock?
I think pricejapan might be but that is riddled with issues!
I'm looking at picking one up from here. Site has an English language option for ease of ordering and, based on shipping quotes, should come in well under £1200 all inclusive. Just scouting around to try and confirm that operation/menu language is definitely changeable before I take the plunge...
why risk it!? wait a while, there are as many issues with this machine as there are Z2's...... just go check out avs. Some of these may be hideously annoying.....
sorry what i meant was wait til you can see one (unless you get a price good enough for you to sell without loss)
Buns, that'll always be a perfecly apt point. But, they'll be issues with anything and everything in this game. Often completely objective and different issues from person to person. I've actually skipped the last couple of generations of digital projectors, the Sanyo PLV-30 being my previous foray. Been waiting for the AE500 ever since it was announced, and just feel the spec increase coupled with the price drop since the days of the PLV-30 and AE100 has evolved to a point of a worthy upgrade that'll see me through to a suitably priced and specced DLP in a couple of years. Paid £2100 for the Sanyo not much more than a couple of years ago, and the AE500 offers a three fold increase in contrast, nearly double the resolution when you compare 1280x720 to the res of a reformated 16:9 image inside the PLV-30's 800x600 panels, DVI input, and, last but not least, a proven to be not insubstantial method of illiminating screendoor. And all for approaching half the outlay of the PLV-30. Granted, all the above bar the smoothscreen could be applied to a Z2 vs. PLV-30 comparison, too. But for another couple of months wait, think the AE500 has already proven it has a slight edge over the Z2 (least not, in price alone) if you do your homework via. other forums and various German and US sites...
I think that the Z2 is being under rated besides the AE500 simply because sanyo have the thing calibrated particularly badly. I seriously doubt that the AE500 is going to be any more than a hairs breadth better than the Z2. The thing about the Z2 is you can physically go and see one compared to the plv30. As a former plv30 owner (immediately before the Z2) I can tell you that certain aspects of these new machines probably wont stun you as much as you think..... black level for a start
Is the ae500 out to buy now, or just available to pre-order for Feb?
That's exactly what ProjectorCentral thought...
Does the units at AV-land come with a dead pixel check?
The AE500's at http://www.av-sales.com for £1400, if this is of interest to anybody.
Has anyone ordered one yet?
If they are actualy out to buy right now, i wouldn't mind having a demonstration and comparison with the Sanyo Z2.
What about dead pixels?, no dead pixel check online means i'd be willing to pay 50-£100 more to buy from a shop (where I could demo it first)...
previously bought a ae300 from online company that didn't warn me about dead pixels, so I ended up returning it to them and losing £28
Are you saying that the PLV30 actually holds up quite well against the new generation LCD PJs then.
As you may recall, I am a PLV30 owner and I've naturally been following developments with interest. I've just about managed to ward off upgraditus thus far, I was always wairy that PLV30 to Z2 might not be as big a leap as I would be expecting. (You know, grass is always greener etc...). What do you think?
Yea...got mine from Krish Audio on Wednesday.
Very impressed so far.
I do indeed recall your being a plv30 owner. I dont know the jump is so enormous as people say. It is better definitely in resolution and out of the box brightness, however my recollection of the plv30 is that its black level was better than the Z2 (now i accept anyone flaming me on that point, it could be simply my poor memory of the plv30). In any case, black level with the plv30 did not bother me as it does on the Z2, this could also be a consequence of all my analysing having sensitised me to the issues. I suggest that you might want to actually compare the two machines before you upgrade.
My feeling is that you will see value in the upgrade is you want blacker blacks, if you hold this as highly important, you may not be so keen.
all the best
