I bought an ae200 just before Xmas at £799 (I could have got it slightly cheaper but I wanted to be able to go to a shop and pick the thing up).

Anyway having seen the price of the ae300 drop to £999 I'm now thinking I should have saved a bit more and gone for the 300. Are there any ae200 owners out there that can reassure me I got the right pj and that you don't get huge picture improvement for £200.

Please be gentle with your comments.

    HUH!

Dont know what thats all about............but dont be to hard on yourself, the 200 is a decent machine for the dosh.

The 300 is better obviously, but unless your a diehard projector nut, the improvement wont be that noticable to you.

If I was you, I'd sit back and enjoy a decent machine the gives you super, large vibrant images for the price of a big tele.

Or yr next dilemma will be!.....that you bought the ae300 ,then the ae500 comes down!.

You cant win in this game mate.

    have fun:hiya:

The AE200 is a great piece of kit.

Vulkan is right. You can't win in this game. I traded in my AE100 and got a AE200 and thought that there was a massive difference in quality.
My misses thought it looked a 'bit better'! Which made me realized that i've turned into a right PJ geek.

Obviously the AE300 will be better then the AE200 but not by much. You start getting in the area of law of diminished returns.

Also, a AE200 on a reasonable screen in a room with dark matt surfaces will always look better then a AE300 projected onto a white wall with light colour walls around it.

    It's all about presentation.

Yeah, I'd fully agree with this.
Although I'm taking eons to get my setup finished with me AE200 due to my painting choises, screen positioning, lighting etc etc, it looks fantastic.
My mate has a £4000 LCD that looks sh!t in comparison. Sure he has no screen door, but he has soft focus, low contrast, a light room and iffy colours.
My AE200 is really clear and punchy in comparison.

    OK, I'll try :D

IMO, the AE300 is significantly better than the AE200 & certainly justifies an extra £200 spend.

    How's that for tactful :p

Thought you didn't like the fuzzy screen technology ?

I've not seen a Ae300 myself, but it would worry me buying blind after reading some people say it's like defocussing your standard LCD.

I do love things to be really crisp (personal taste) which I guess is why I don't like either of the two CRT projectors my mates had in the past.

In saying that, I'd guess the AE500 would be ok, as the finer pixels would minimise the issue in the first place.

I don't ;) Still prefer the AE300 though & certainly think it justifies its £200 higher price tag.

i've had a 200 for a couple of months now, and i am very happy with it, have spent ages messing with different software in search of a better pq.

    currently running zoomplayer,ffdshow,anydvd,reclock,powerstrip for dvd,s

and descaler and powerstrip for sky

pj fitted with hoya fld filter.

i think imho that the pq i have achieved is superb.

so be happy with your ae200, and have a play around with it

That's one thing against the AE300, no possibility of 1:1 mapping via DVI :(

    Being a HCPC protagonist...............

    Dave A

a couple of questions re your 200...if you dont mind.

1: what size is your projected image?
2: what distance are you from the screen?

    both leading upto...

3:how bad is the screendoor (if any)

as i would be sitting 9' from my screen, and i was thinking of the 200. as its at a real tempting price right now....

    thanks

Thanks for the replies, athough not the one calling me a Suckaaa.

I've not seen any screen door and don't want to start looking for it!.

The screen size is 105" and I sit just under 15 feet from the screen.

Dave !, You took offense to my B.A Baracus type post ? Man , some people are just lacking humour, it was supposed to be a joke post :boring:. Oh well I guess some people are just to darn sensitive. IMHO - it really dose not matter what other think or say, Its just as long as your truly happy with your equipment and your PTAE- 200 projector :p :p :p :p .

    Peace out & Take care.
