did anyone take out an extended warranty on their ae-100s? using the search i can see alot of people mentioning it but no one actually plumped for one
which one was the best in the end?
    panasonics own
    domestic and general?
    who has the best options+prices?
mine is about 1 month away from the last month of warranty (assuming panasonic and sound and vision only give 1 year?)
    sorry for so many questions!
    thanks
    PJ

I'm in a similar position having just purchased the Panasonic AE300 PJ a week ago (from Digital Direct's website).

I assume it comes with a manufacturer's one year guarantee - though DD tell me that if there are any problems I have to contact Panasonic direct rather than them - but I want to know whether I should be taking out additional insurance over and beyond that as I'm hoping this PJ will last for at least several years.

Digital Direct had been publicising Domestic and General on their website but e-mails to them asking for a quote have gone unanswered so far.

    Any advice from others appreciated.

    Cheers

I just purchased an extended warranty for my AE100 through Discount TV (a forum sponsor), who I bought my PJ from. Can't remember who it's with. Cost about £70 for 2 years. Good value IMO.

Did you get any documentation with it indicating an insurance company or was it just an entry on the receipt from the company you purchased it from?

i just contacted discount tv and they only offer the exended warrantys at the time of purchase :(
anyone found anything else? does it come under house insurance(i have no idea!) or is thta just if it gets flooded, burned or stolen?
are there any other reputable companies other than domestic?(are they even reputable?)

I phoned up the web-based dealer I purchased my Panasonic AE300 from about 10 days ago querying what my options were on extending the warranty.

They told me £99 for 3 years (not clear if this included the first year which I get anyway from the manufacturer) or £199 for 4-5 years.

They said it covered everything including accidental damage but seemed unable to give me anything on paper or point to anywhere on their website where I could read all the small print. They simply said I could buy it on the phone - think it's with Domestic and General - and then I'd get all the documentation, presumably from D and G.

Only thing it didn't cover is the bulb.

The other query I had with them is not having any visible guarantee in the packaging for my PJ. I had expected to have a card or something so I could register with Panasonic with my details so that they had me on record should I need to contact them in the first 12 months after purchase. Bloke on the phone said not to worry about it.

    Slightly nervous about that.....

Do you worry about your TVs warrantee?

My AE100 is 18months old with 1020 hours on it now. I have had 0 issues with it. If it went pop tomorrow I would claim on the household insurance and be tossing a coin marked AE300 on one side and AE500 on the other...

should i get it listed on my house contents as a separate item(i really do have no idea about these sort of things!)

Everything in the house is covered old for new. Costs an arm and a leg, but it gives peace of mind...:boring:

D & G warranties are good and very comprehensive, they include accidental damage and generally are very fair at paying out!

I have just got a quote off domestic and general regarding AE300E extended cover, and the quotes came out similar to the above, but two different customer services people seemed to think that the bulb IS covered, as it is needed to make the projector work satisfactorily. When they say they don't cover bulbs, I was told they meant bulbs like in the lights in a fridge freezer, as not required to work.

Hope this helps people, a little to pay for piece of mind, I think!
