    Hi,

I curreently own a 28" Toshiba widescreen tv, and hopefully within the next month i want to buy a Plasma.

I want the panasonic as from what i have read they are the best.

On the av sales website they have 3 in my budget, which is anything up to £1800 or so all in with what i need.

The 3 models on av sales are....TH-42PW7B, TH-42PWD7BS, and TH-42PWD7BK. I think the difference between the last two is that one is silver and the other black, but the first one, why is that slightly more expensive?

I currently have sky which i hope to use as the tuner, would this be acceptible?
Then all i have is my DVD, and video player to add, so 3 things in total.

Would having the BNC board, which has Component/SVHS/Composite all in one be enough to connect everything? Is there anything else i would need?

I have read about hd, and sd, what is that?

I will most likely change my tv in 3 years time, which i always seem to do, so future proofing isn't that much of a big deal, but some might be helpful :)

    Thanks for any advise. :)

Thanks horney, i have reread that thread, and think i understand it a little more now than i did last night :) Though undestanding it makes my head itch :)

May i confirm i have understood it correctly, and am right in what i think i need....

    Plasma,
    Wall bracket
    component bnc board(dual thing)
    scart board
    (any cables, i need, which i don't know :()

Connect the dvd player to the plasma using component.(could i then get sound by using the receiver connected to the dvd player?)
Connect sky up using the scart board.

Why would i need a js converter, and could i get away with just the component board?

I don't think it hurts to ask peoples opinions.

My eye is untrained, and i doubt i could view an Nec and panny side by side. I have seen a panasonic, and to me, looked pretty good, and as good as your going to get unless you start spending ridiculous amounts of money.

My eye is untrained too but I f I was listening what most people saying in here I would go for a panasonic definitely.
But after making a research in stores and comparing both screens side by side I ve found that the pio looks much better and more natural to my eyes.

yes but low quality for RGB from Sky you need the JS converter or the scart board (V similar price)do like this:
NOTE Sky box TV scart is RGB or composite VCR scart is composite only
SKY (TV)> JS RGB>VGA>VGA on panel
SKY (VCR)>VCR>Composite input on dual slot
    OR
VCR>SKY(VCR) and then SKY (TV)>Scart on panel

    DVD> component on dual slot

UP to you how you do it JS route is best PQ Scart board route is easiest funtionality

    Thanks again horny,

Does the panel already have a vga slot, or is that a seperate card i would need?

I think due to quality i will go down the js converter route :)

(now to sort out my other av equipment, dvd player, av receiver :))

Oh, yah, sorry, my wording was totally wrong, from what i have read, then it seems like for the next price bracket the pio is the best, i just think it is a big leap on price for the quality. i was only intending on spending £1300 or so, and then revised it to £1500, and then finally to £1800, but i think a reestimate is £2000, oh well, it will give lots of enjoyment.

VGA comes as standard with the bare panel, its VGA + 3 empty slots (AV reciever may simplify connections if it does video up conversion... IE DVD>AMP VCR>AMP Sky> AMP via JS RGB> YUV and then all to YUV (component input on screen)

Well, my current teac doesn't do that, but i have decided i think to change it for a denon, as i dont thnik my teac 700, and my mission fs2 speakers like each other, as the sound, sounds a little brash.

I am considering the Denon 2805, and that has the conversion thing.

Tho, would i still need the js converter yes?

2805 does yes, (those speakers are brash) perhaps replace them instead of the AMP!!!
JS RGB>YUV for top quality.........switched via AMP
JS RGB>VGA for direct connection to panel

    Hi Horny

Just wondered if you had seen the sync blaster (got it from keene) scart to vga in action, which I currently use to connect sky+ to vga on my pw7 and if so how you think it compares to the js rgb > vga. Am using this as I had it already as a legacy of my unfortunate tiny experience (sheesh I had to remind myself!!)...and actually am v pleased with pq....but like all of us am always striving for near perfection :)

The amp and speakers are only a month old, (bought new)how much do you think i will get for the speakers, and the amp?

Also, what would i replace the speakers with, as whatever i got for the speakers i would need to get new/newer ones with ?

Thanks, i thought it was maybe the amp the problem.

I got the speakers from a local hifi shop, which are part of the euronic group.

The amp i got from similar.

If i could get £400 for selling the Teac 700, and about £300/400 for the speakers i would be chuffed.

I am tone death, and thought the speakers sounded good, any advise on speakers in the 3300/400 range?

Thanks again Hd, your being great.

Thanks, i like speakers that blend in well, i am not all for big.

Sound wise i like a sound which is full of life, vibrant, and has lots of depth.

these fs2's don't have any depth, maybe they need bedding in for the 100 odd hourd though.

WIll certainly check out the cantons, thanks :)
