I own a alfa romeo 156 tspark 1.8 very nice and tidy full leather but the engines faulty and needs a replacement, i know these arnt the most reliable car so i dont know weather to buy a replacemnt engine, and hope it doesnt fail again, or buy a new car for under 3k i need something reliable and luxury ish ive been thinking about maybe a Mercedes CLK 200 Coupe full leather 2.0 models about 80k on the clock as im 25 and need low ish insurance.

any ideas advice would be great as i dont want to throw money at a car thats going to break after a few thousand miles again.

My mates 1.8 twin spark 156 was very reliable.
If the rest if the cars ok, why not go for a new engine?
Maybe go for a 2.0 twin spark engine?

Im Tempted but i dont want to spend all the money on a new engine and fitting it for it to fail again, i cant get a used engine for about 500 and a fully refurbed engine is 1200 which sounds alot of money if it does die again, alfas are supposed to be un-reliable and after reading forums on them im worried but i do realy like the car when it works.

Yes, their bad reputation is just repeated by people like you, who've probably never even driven one, never mind owned one.
    Zzzzzzzzz.......

    Fair enough.
Just a bit hard to take some teenage boy with a moped passing opinion on them.

What ive experience of the T.Spark is lack of oil can kill them quite easy. Helped change and engine on one where the bottom end ate it self after the owner didnt keep on top of the oil consumption.

ps. I'd still love an Alfa GT, i just cant justify the running costs compared to others, its the same reason i'd never have a Brera.

You don't need a luxury car, you want one, spending 3k on a car that cost 30k new is an disaster waiting to happen, any major breakdown will write it off, gearbox, head gasket .

A few years ago I had a hankering for an Audi A8 , so I bought one, a 10 year old 4.2 Quattro , it was fantastic , I loved it, until I started looking into what it could cost to fix if it went wrong, 5k for a gearbox , £1500 to do the Cambelt , 5k to fix the engine if it snaps, so I sold it, the 8mpg I was getting didn't help either

My advice would be if you're happy with the alfa spend the money on fixing it with an engine from a reliable supplier, ask on an Alfa forum , you don't want one where the only new thing is the paint on the outside
