Hi,
I am looking at changing my elderly parents TV set up. They have at the moment Sky the freeview version.
I was going to get the 46" Panosonic Tv with built in Freesat tuner and the Humix Foxsat. Would these be a good choice and should it be easy for them to use?
Can I use the current Sky dish (small black one and the exsisting 4 point LNB that is currently installed.
If so what do I need to do to get it going and what changes/different equipment would I need.
All new to this so any advice, hints and recomendations greatly apreciated..
Many thanks

All the equipment you mention will connect to your dish. Consider whether you need to pay the premium for the built in freesat tuner in the TV. The foxsat-hdr has twin tuners and even when recording 2 you can also watch a 3rd channel while recording 2 (the choice of watching depends on what you are recording). In addition you can always watch a recording and will also have the freeview tuner in the TV.

If you have a PC and Excel download my EXcel application from here

4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download FoxsatRecordCheck010.xls

It will give you a good idea as to what you can watch while recording two.

(just click on the button labelled 2 cables)

Do they need such a big TV? I ask because I find anything over 32" overwhelming and dominates the room.

Hi,
Yes they fancy a big TV. they sit about 4 meters away from it as well!!! which is a fair distance.
Do I have to move the dish or will it pick up from the angle it is at now?
If they have the Freesat tuner in the TV can they watch what ever whislt still recording??
Many thanks for advice and views.

You don't need to move the dish freesat and sky are the same channels, same satellite. The only difference is the epg. Freesat don't transmit anything they simply offer an alternative epg to sky but for free to air channels only. To use the sat tuner in the TV you need 3 connections to the dish (you should already have a quad (4 output) lnb). Two are required for the hdr and one for the TV. Connected this way the tuners are completely independent so you can watch anything on the TV whatever the foxsats doing. You can't of course pause live TV or do any other tricks using the TV tuner. Can't imagine what they would need the freesat tuner in the TV though as the hdr can record both HD channels at the same time and freeview has more of the popular SD channels than freesat anyway.

Hi,
They do not get freeview with a standard ariel as they do not have one. Can the get freeview through the sat dish?
Would just freesat get the normal channels ie 1 - 5 and is there some sort of EPG with that for them to use??
Many thanks

You can't get freeview from a dish they need an aerial for that. Freesat has a 8 day epg and on the hdr you just click OK on an epg entry to schedule a recording. Current freesat channel line up
