OK all what is the best way to get a shop like the House of Fraser or John Lewis to price match?
Do you say you "Were away on business and walked into a Tv and Video Direct store in Bolton..." As I understand shops will not price match internet prices?
Please advise may take the 36" plunge this week:eek:

Apparently http://www.tvandvideodirect.com have a high street shop so JL & HOF will price match them so long as you print off the relevant page AND the shop address/phone number details etc.

Alternatively (or maybe as well), get a Barclaycard and use their Price Promise. That gives you 60 days to find a better price anywhere in the UK - including internet only sites!

If it was me I'd do both, as I'd want the JL/HOF 5 year guarantee, and also the Barclaycard has a £1000 per year max payback so I'd not want to use it all up at once... ;)

I'm suspicious that they list sites that pay to be listed, eg Samsung sp-42p25 plasma display Pricerunner best (only!) £2502

    RS £1999 .

There are many more similar examples...it kinda throws doubt on there impartiality.
I would stress that this is my perception and as such may be wholly inacurate.

I've tried twice to get a price match at JL with tvandvideo (Loewe Aconda). 1st time was accepted but the 2nd time they would only match their store price which is diff from the internet prices. I then tried a diff JL store who again refused to match the internet prices.

My local Empire in Bolton price matched a Sony DX150.
Got it for £899. Could get it for £856 + del from a web site but would have only saved a tenner.

    Regards

My 32" PF2 arriveing on Wednesday was pricematched by John Lewis with totaldigital.biz. I phoned their store first to check they had stock and their in store price was the same as the internet one and then took print outs down to a JL store. Got a phonecall next week to confirm a few details and they price matched the totaldigital.biz price (after delivery was added to the advertised price): £1059, not too bad :D
House of Fraser normally won't offer their "free" warranty with a price match although one person I spoke to at their Bluewater store said he would and always had done. I've just reported HoF to Trading Standards over their use of the word "free" in connection to their warranty, should be interesting to see what happens.

use JL bristol for price matching (phone number is on the website) as they seem more tolerant than most JL stores. you can then use the bristol pricematch reference to order from your local store :)

    Anastie,

Have you performed a search for "John Lewis" on the Forum, as this subject has been done to death recently.

The only rules seem to be that there are no rules!

It depends totally on who you speak to, what sort of day they're having, etc.

About the only thing you can be sure of, is that you won't get a Pricematch if you're the one to give up first!

    Good luck.
