Advice sought on Sony TAE9000es and TAN9000es

As posted elsewhere, I am on the upgrade ... and having finally [taken the plunge/rolled the dice] on the TV front (yes, it is a Tosh ZD26), and begun the Gallo ball game, I return to the move from ProLogic to 5.1 and more ...

I had put myself in the UKP 350 to 450 range for an AV receiver, with brand loyalty preference for Yamaha. But now I see a second-hand offer of a

"Sony TAE9000es and TAN9000es home cinema system."

This is clearly in a different league. Nevertheless, I'm tempted.

Now, I'm also probably out of my depth so may I ask the audience?

I asked a Moderator whether it be OK for me to invite advice/scorn via a PM to me directly. He said yes, but recommended this public post also -- be gentle with me.
