All some much needed help required please.

Just set up my new Plasma panel (Panasonic Viera 42") yesterday.

I have a few notable problems, but first ill explain the setup in case this is my problem and I have overlooked something:

Plasma to SKY + via RGB only scart
SKY+ to Marantz SR5200 AMP via coax cable
Plasma to DVD via fully wired scart
Marantz SR4300? DVD to AMP via optical cable

BTW the plasma is located in a different room to all other components so if i need to run in any other cables i will have to do so soon as the decrators are due in shortly.

Problem one - AMP keeps switching off whist watching SKY.

Problem two - how do i get a video signal from my amp to Plasma in order to access the AMP setup program ( as they are in different rooms id prefer to not have to run any more cables, except if possible to one of the other components locally, i.e. DVD or SKY to AMP Dont know if this is possible)

Problem three - previosuly as soon as i switched on my CRT TV the amp would automatically kick in, I now have to manually press the power button (think this may be related to problem two ?)

Problem four - I also ran into my Plasma an S-Video to scart cable (scart at plasma end) in order to connect my PC's video card in the future. I tested this with my DVD player last night (svideo at DVD end and scart at plasma end) and only get a distorted reddish/greenish picture which moves from left to right, audio is perfect but picture is completely unwatchable, what have I done wrong ?

If anyone could please help out with any of these problems I'd sincerely appreciate it.

Without knowing your kit first hand:

problem two: you need to connect a vidoe output from the amp to the TV, i.e. you'll need to connect the 'monitor' (or whatever they call it in Marantz-land!) output from your amp to the plasma.

This will probably only be via S-video - it may well be that you will only use this input on the plasma whilst you are playing with the amp's settings (unless you are going to use the amp's video switching capabilities), as it would appear that you are directly routing the video sources to the TV.

On a separate note - again, not knowing what connections the Marantz DVD player has - would seriously reccommend that you try component cables between DVD and TV; in my eyes, an 'upgrade' that works. But, without knowing the distances involved, it could be expensive...

    Antsplan,

As no-one else has answered - again I'm not sure, just an opinion/idea.

Problem 3: Sounds like there was some form of trigger switching between your old telly and amp: what is different in your set-up from your old tv and Panny plasma? Sounds like you had a direct connection between amp and tv previously (i.e. used the amp for video switching), and from your previous answer, there is no longer this connection; only whatever you used/are using for the amp's set-up menu (which is video/monitor output-only, nothing going from tv to amp).

Think about it: how can your tv tell the amp to turn on, if there is no communication path between them?

Problem 4: It may as simple as setting the plasma to expect an S-vid signal when using that AV source. Typically on Panasonic products, you turn the TV on, then the relevant video/AV source on, and toggle between the composite/s-video/RGB setting using the coloured FASTEXT buttons. The tv should remember this setting for the next time it receives a signal on that input.

Otherwise, test this S-video to SCART connection on the plasma with another source that you know that works, e.g. the SKY box, your DVD player (if either has a S-vid socket). i.e. try and work out if it is the cable, the source (PC) or the TV which has the problem.
