Advice please

My Samsung Sh855 has stopped playing DVD's. I'm not going for another recorder as I never really use the recording side of it....

I've got a PS3 but it’s a US jobbie, most of my DVD collection is region 1 but I do have some region 2 discs (notably the LOTR extended editions).

My dilemma is do I buy a replacement DVD player, it has to be multi region, have divx and optical out, or do I go for a blu-ray player that has the same features?

I'm edging to the blu-ray player so I can play region B discs as well; they are now cheaper than the A's I was getting for the PS3.

If I go down the DVD player route it's got to be £50-60
Blu-ray sub £200.

What do you guys think?

That's what I'm thinking, does the Sony do Divx? It's a bit cheaper than the panny.

Nope Panasonic or PS3 if you want divx and multi region....

Shame you want multi region as the Samsungs excel over optical

(thats why i went for the panny )

just need a popcorn hour now for playing stuff from the pc.

i suppose I could omit the divx requirement as the PS3 does this, it's just I've found some divx's don't play on the PS3 and did on the sammy.

To be honest I wouldn't touch another samsung disc player. I hardly used mine for playing dvd's!
