I have been on the forum for several months and have picked up loads of useful advice and info. I have been assemblinh home cinema over a few months. So far I have a panasonic viera 42", arcam DV89 dvd, sky+ and some decent scart leads. Any suggestions for a shortlist of amp receiver and speaker combinations. Not sure on budget as I don't want amp or speakers to be a weaklink but obviously dont want to have any one bit of kit that is far superior to any other. So any help appreciated. (speakers need to be wife friendly).
Any comments on arcam Avr3000 maybe abit pricey or yamaha rxv 1400rds cheaper.
Speakers how about kef eggs, canton or anthony Gallo.
    Thanks

most amps are receivers...... very few are not so dont make that a deciding factor... as for speakers with the kit you have already if you were to look at canton it would need to be the CD4.44 or Karat series for big conventials look at B&W, Monitor Audio and Wharfedale or for life style Def Tech, AG (A'Diva and Due) KEF 5005

What sort of speakers are you after Doc WAF or huge manly floor stander or very modern designer types?

RXV1400 is a good deal at the price but i believe the arcam amps are much better value even at the bigger price difference! Demo the AVR300 and very very soon the slightly cheaper avr250 @ £1000.

Is the main advantage of Arcam stereo (music) playback?

Speakers - I am looking for small, pref wall mounted. Anyone heard the new MS Genie speakers?

i suggest you decide on your speakers first then the amp/receiver....speakers can be bright or warm so you have to pair it with the appropriate amp/receiver...demo demo demo and see (or hear) which one you like

if the system is mainly for dvd viewing, yamaha are known for this....musical amps/rcvrs are Harman/Kardon, Marantz to name a few

Thinking of going to WHF show in November. Has anyone been so that you can see lots of stuff in one place. I don't suppose they have demo rooms. Do they have show offers?
