After Andrewdolphin pointed out some dead pixels on my Powershot A80 I have managed to get in touch with Jessops to see what I need to do. They have given me a number of options.

1] Send the camera back to Canon for repair
2] Take it back to Jessops and they will exchange it for an A 85 if i pay the difference
3] Take it back and they will exchange for a A95 if i pay the difference.

The third option seems favorite at the moment as the A85 does not have a swivel screen whereas the A95 does. They will also price match on the A95 to the best price I can find.

I could be on to winner here as if I can find my original invoice for £249 I can save myself money again as they pricematched it at a later date :)

What do you think and whats the best price for an A95 you have seen?

Yup - go for the A95 over the A85 any day - the A85 is a step DOWN from the A80 in my opinion.

I have had a powershot a70 for a week now and think its great value for money £147 [from cameras2u.co.uk] anyway turned on today and noticed a green dot on lcd panel, think this is dead pixel or pixels. Its in lower right hand corner of screen, the manual states that occasionally pixels may misfire or appear red or black but do not effect image recorded so doesn't constitute a malfunction.... is this quite a common fault on cameras with lcd screens, is it likely to get worse and should i try and change camera. I really don't need the hastle right now and camera seems fine in every other way...Help

Is it on the LCD screen and on the finished picture or just the screen?

Pictures came out lovely...Wonder if i am being a bit picky, i am such a stickler for having things right. Hope i don't change it and get problems of a different kind with next, tempted to keep it. Is this dead pixel thing a problem with all lcd cameras... have we just been unlucky!

Like Steve says, there is a big difference to having a dead pixel on the sensor and having a dead pixel on the little display. The first means that all the pictures that come out of the camera will have a hole (of colour usually) where there is the dead spot. Having a dead pixel on the display means you have a tiny green dot when you look at the shots.

It might be annoying, but it doesnt really make any difference to the overall camera ability.

Lets just hope you don't get another camera back that has a dead sensor pixel !!! But then again, its faulty so you should get a new one from them.

    good luck

Figured they were normal...my new 20D has one hot pixel from around 1sec up, and 2 at 15sec ISO100. Not sure about living with it or exchanging really.

It is probably worth contacting manufacturer. I think its a bit like Plasma TV's. Manufacturers tend to have their own rule/definition of "faulty". Some will allow say three dead pixels provided they are not clumped together etc etc

The rules for your fault might well be within tolerance as your pixels are not actually dead, just defective at longer exposures.

You are right to wonder about exchanging, incase a different problem occurs, but then again you get a yrs warranty on that and if it is faulty you just exchange that and so on. Its a bit of a hassle, but you have spent a lot of money in good faith

Called Canon who said seeing hot pixels at 1sec 100ISO was good enough reason to arrange an exchange and the shop i brought it from are cool with this... so will chop it in when they replace their stock. Looking a dpreview 1 from 15sec up seems about the norm.

Well, a big  to Jessops.

Got myself an A95 to replace the A80 and didn't pay a penny extra. No questions asked, just an exchange and a smile, especially off me as I have managed to get a £320 camera (Jessops RRP) for under £200 :D

    Come on the October competition!!!!
