I have an opportunity to buy a Philips BDS4611 at an unbeatable price. I'm not a videophile by any means so I don't care about hdtv etc as I'm moving from an old non-flat 28" CRT - so even a basic plasma would be a great improvement. I may have to move very quickly otherwise lose out so I won't be able to view it beforehand.

On reading the specs though one thing concerned me the low contrast ratio compared to other products. Can anybody clarify the real effect of this i.e. will the PQ be really crap.

    Display Size : 46"
    Resolution : 852 X 480
    Contrast Ratio : 800:1
    Aspect Ratio : 16:9
    Brightness : 700 cd/m2
    Viewing Angle : 160 Degrees

Before anyone suggests comparisons, I would say again that my comparison will be against an old non-flat crt - so I don't need the highest quality picture. In any event I think Id be changing again in a coupe of years so something better.
