I know this question keeps getting posted, but I would really appreciate some suggestions on what to choose from the plethora of TVs currently available, or at least on how to evaluate them.
We need an LCD panel for an HTPC running MythTV connecting over HDMI. We are thinking in terms of a 37" LCD, looking to pay around £7-800, though both the spec and budget can be adjusted in light of suggestions. We will initially be watching digital terrestrial TV (Freeview) and DVDs with satellite and BluRay following shortly, so HD content will need to be accomodated. We also plan to use it for other (Linux) applications such as viewing photos and video calling, but gaming is not important. Viewing distance will be just over 2m. There are patio doors opposite the TV location, though not much direct sun through them.
Due to the HTPC picture quality is the main factor - other built in electronics are secondary as they are unlikely to be used much. Suggestions on speaker setup are also welcome. Will it be possible to send sound over HDMI to the TV, as we have a pair of good quality stereo speakers we would like to connect directly to the TV, or will we need an amp? Due to the layout of the living room a 5.1 / 7.1 surround-sound speaker setup is not practical.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
Andrew
