Advice needed re VP50 and 52" Sharp setup

You may have seen my other VP50 hacked off thread. That aside, I'm floundering a little regarding settings for VP50 feeding 52" Sharp. Sources at the moment are Sky+ (soon Sky HD) and Denon 2900. Should I set VP50 to output 1080p so as much processing as possible is done there? Any other settings of prime importance on the VP50? I haven't done too much yet since it's such a huge pain in the ass adjusting anything without a functional remote, grrr. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Yes, all processing should be done on the vp50, you want NONE done on the screen ideally. The Sharp has a 1-1 mode doesn't it?
Setting the output level correctly to PC/Video is important.

Make sure the Denon is outputting 480i/576i or if it's doing 480p/576p then turn on PReP. You'll need to download and install firmware 1.01 from dvdo for that option to appear under "Input Adjust"

Make sure it's 50Hz->50Hz.

and check the settings using the test patterns esp Frame Geometry and horiz/vertical lines to ensure the screen isn't playing with the signal (this is tough without the remote)

and the grey ramp to set brightness & contrast on the screen for the vp50 then you can tweak each source using the brightness, colour etc on the vp50

Thanks Choddo. I have the VP50 outputting 1080p and had set the Denon to 576i. I think I've set the screen to 1:1, I'll check again in the morning when I've reread the manuals. I did the 1.01 firmware upgrade as soon as I unpacked the unit (which was when I discovered the dead remote). Could you perhaps elaborate a little on the PC/video output level, and the 50 Hz thing? When I'm sure I have all the basic settings right I'll run the test patterns again, but as you say, without a functional remote it is tough.

Output Level is quite well explained in the manual, it's to do with the number of bits of colour information & what the screen expects on that input, they need to match afaik. On my screen, "Video" looks noticeably washed out.

If you check the framerate on the output config, you set it for 50Hz & 60Hz inputs separately. Just ensure it's set to 50Hz lock for 50Hz sources.
