    Hiya all,

I alreday have a HD DVD player but so i got the best of both worlds want to get a Blu Ray player too.

Thinking of getting a PS3 to do this....

I would be playing games from time to time (i imagine lots at the start and less and less over time) but mainly it's purpose would be watching Blu Ray movies via HDMI into a 1080p Projector.

you can now pick up a USA PS3 for £359 delivered. I have a spare plug on my stepdown (got a USA HD A1) so it's just the player i need.

Judging by the above, would getting a PS3 for movies be the best choice?? and i take it there isnt a problem getting a USA model (other than not being able to lay Blu Ray movies from this country)

The other option i been thinking was buying a stand alone blu ray player..

    Thanks for any advice guys.

Oh, on a side note, why do some Blu Ray discs say PS3 Edition??? are they any different from the regular Blu Ray movie??

For £359 you could get a UK PS3 if you keep an eye on the offers.

If price is the only criteria then an HK or JP PS3 would be cheaper.

Sorry Tony, i shouldn't have mentioned the price as that has nothing to do with my purchase.

The reason i want a USA version is so i can play Region A BLU RAY movies...
I never buy movies from this country...

Any thoughts on my other questions???

Would a USA PS3 be better purchase than a stanadalone player?
Why some Blu Ray Disc have PS3 Edition, does this mean they're not as good??

Hong kong and Japan are the same region for blu-ray as the US. They are all region A. If you're not going to play games on it especially PS1 and PS2, and are only interested in region A blu-ray then a Japanese or HK machine would probably be cheaper. If you're also planning on watching region 1 DVD's then you would need to get a US machine.

Also just to let you know you do not need to use a step down transformer with the PS3. It is a multi voltage console and just requires a UK kettle lead with a 3 or 5 amp fuse.

According to comparision reviews in Hi-Fi magazines the PS3 is more then capable pf standing up to stand alone players regards performance and is regarded as a better value for money. Regards those blu-rays that mention PS3 on the packaging that is just a marketing ploy and has nothing to do with the quality.
