I am thinking of buying a dvd player (pref with tuner) and was looking at the sub-£50 range until I spoke to an ex-colleague about his meridian and barco(?) projector setup. I'm now inspired to compile a decent system as later in the year I will be going for a plasma, or LCD (I'll ask for guidance nearer the time).

I've seen a TEAC dvd system (DR-L700; A-L700P and LSL-800) ina sale for £700 and wondered whether this was a good deal, or an old system that's past its sell by date (I read the forum review from mar 03)

At this kind of money, should I consider used high end systems or is there something better, or as good for less cash? Only constraints are size (my wife doesn't want me to take over the house with it) and Sony (I don't like them – though if they're much better quality and value than an my principles are cheap)
