    Hi,

Can anyone tell what the real advantages of Sky + are, I realise that you can record blah blah blah

What I want to know is do you get better sound and picture than normal Sky Digital ?

    Cheers

Better picture, no since SKY+ uses the same technology as the standard digibox. Better sound, probably once you use the optical output to feed a seperate amplifier although it has to be said for normal (non DD5.1 audio) the analogue RCA outputs are fine.

SKY+ is first and foremost a recording device so dismissing those features is kinda missing the whole point:)

I lived without a video recorder for a couple of years and didnt even think about getting a replacement...... I then got sky+ basically so i could have sky in another room and now use the record feature endlessly. I think it is something which you dont realise the use of until you try it

Two biggest advantages seem to me to be

    1. Watch one program whilst recording another (and another)
    2. Setting the record times via the EPG

If these don't lift your skirt then save your cash for the next generation of technology. Probably a good thing to have if you have kids or spend way too much time watching TV but otherwise...

Does Sky+ use the same DAC as any other Sky Box.

I do not know but it's a safe assumption that bypassing the audio DAC will produce better sound reproduction assuming once again you have a reasonable amp.
The video component of course varies from box to box and manufacturer to manufacturer which is why there are reported differences in PQ and the original SKY+ bein able to be modified for SDI output.
