    Chris,

No, they're not a "type" of disc like Superbit. Criterion is a US-based company who take selected films from all kinds of genres, and try to give them the best possible treatment on DVD. That normally means:-

    - original ratio
    - anamorphic widescreen prints
    - digitally remastered / restored audio and video
    - quality packaging
    - audio commentaries
    - documentaries

Because of their releases, Criterion is one of the best companies releasing DVD's, as almost all of their releases are really impressive, and worth their higher price. Check out their website at:

Gotta agree with you again Pointon,Criterion had their day with laser disc, then their discs where worth the extra moola, but with every studio these days releasing every disc with all the extras and more that you could want I don`t for one second see how they justify their inflated price hike  sure they have some great discs - The Rock and their work on restoring things like Kurosawa`s `Seven Samuri` are to be commended, but they are really nothing like they used to be  I mean their head honcho a while ago was quoted as saying he did not think anamorphic made a diference and something along the lines of DTS was the inferior sound carrier - hmmmm !!! don`t get me wrong I like the company,I used to buy a ton of their lasers, and have quite a few of their dvds but I have seen far better transfers in both the picture and the sound department from many other companies.

    Chasing Amy £14.99

    I think thats reasonable.

Use price checker and you will find many criterion releases just as cheap as the regular release.

But if your after value for money then I think you cant beat the Vista series.
