    hi all

recently been thinking of adding a stereo amp to my existing Marantz amp (SR6010) to expand Atmos from 5.1.2 to 5.1.4,

is it of any importance to have the stereo amp from the same brand, it will only be used to drive the extra 2 speakers in Atmos, I don't have the budget for a dedicated power amp.

I was looking at a PM 5005 but have been offered from a friend a 2nd hand Yamaha AS201

    sorry for the newb question.

It's not important to use an external amp from the same brand. Whatever you decide on will be fine.

It may be that adding a two channel power amplifier from the same manufacturer offers some convenience benefits, I.e. turning them on and off together via the remote control. It might be worth checking the manual of the Marantz 7025.
