Adding a power amp

Hi, just wondered if you could add a power amp to any amplifier or does it need a special input. I have an old hitachi amp which i love and just want a deeper soundstage and a bit more bass. ANy advice appreciated.

it should do quite easily i would think.However I dont know arcam stuff,I have rotel power.

It would certainly give you more power but I would take your arcam to a dealer and get it demoed with a power amp of your choice.Arcam 8 wouldnt be available now but one of the Diva range might do the trick:

You've forgotten EBAY...i;ve my eye on an arcam 8 power amp. Looking forward to hearing it. Thanks for all the advice folks...i appreciate it.
