When I watched 24 Season 6 I was sure I saw Stephen Merchant get handed a piece of paper at CTU right at the start . Can anyone confirm ?

anyway it got me thinking of Cameos or actors in unusual places. Can you name some good bad or just really unusual cameos in TV or even guest appearences?

Curb your Enthusiasm has loads but I thought Dustin Hoffman and Sacha Baron Cohen in season 5 as angels was a big surprise.

The Larry Sanders show obviously had hundreds but I thought David Duchovney actually fancying Larry and doing the leg crossover in his dressing gown was genius.

Marrigold fron in Sicknesss and Health staring as Karem Siad in OZ was definetly one for the unusual places category

can you think some more ?

a classic one I recall is John Cleese in the 1979 Tom Baker Doctor Who story City of Death - as an art lover (apparently as a favour to writer Douglas Adams)

Christian Slater standing in a darkened doorway and mumbling a few words in 'Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country'.

Yes, you're right. Stephen Merchant did have a cameo in 24. Ricky was also due to appear, but he couldn't make it or something. Thank god really, he doesn't do the "cameo" role too well.

I think they said he was too famous and have done a spoof bit with him in on the extras of the DVD (I'm not certain but I think that is right). I also have been told that Gervais is to be appearing in Heroes. Again this isn't confirmed but if it's true it's a bad choice in my opinion.

    Eleanor Bron was there also.

Just saw Patrick Troughton as a high ranking military type in the Adam Adamant Lives episode D For Destruction.

yup, though I'm sure you'll agree that Cleese (& Bron) beats Dodd, T Baker beats McCoy, Lalla Ward beats Bonnie Langford, and Douglas beats almost everyone ;)

Just read the news in the BSG thread that the old Battlestar Galactica find Earth episodes are to be released on DVD. It reminded me that I saw David Duchovny as a radar operator in one of them.

    Best wishes

is that Galactica 1980? Was quite a naff show wasn't? It was disowned by Richard Hatch (Apollo & now Tom Zarek) who wasn't in it, when he tried to revive the show as a continuation of the original series.

Yes it is. It was a bit on the "it's so bad it's good" level. I think it also had some famous American DJ in it. Maybe the same that was in American Graffiti.

I remember Tom Baker played a railway porter in the Sid James and Peggy Mount sitcom George And The Dragon. Brian Wilde was a policeman in another.

I can remember seeing an un-billed Alec Guiness in MUTE WITNESS a film about making snuff movies!!!! Other un-billed appearances James Mason in GUNS OF ZARHAIN,Tony Curtis in CHAMBER OF HORRORS,one of the best inwho was that? category :) was THE LIST OF ADRIAN MESSENGER-you had to wait until the end of the film to see the respective stars unmask theirselves.
I'm sure it was Morgan Freeman who was the main radar operator in CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND

Can't remember quite how long he was in it but Francis Truffaut. Also Harrison Ford had a bit role in American Graffiti.
