Actors/actresses that you’re not sold on?

Gwyn Paltrow, awful actress but made a good career from being able to simper well.
Most actors are overrated and don’t hone their acting skills, because the special effects around them do all the work. Eg Iron Man - can’t remember his name.
Did you mean him or her in it ? respectively there names are Tony Stank and Salt Shaker.

Robert Downey Jr? I've never seen Iron Man, but he is very good in other things, like as Chaplin.
Haven’t seen Chaplain but he’s a let down in Iron Man. That particular franchise put me off Superpower films with their overproduction and little/no substance plots. What a boring mess they were for a while.

But then Guardians of the Galaxy tuned me back in.

Are you including the first one? Had the opposite effect on me, loved how grounded it was with the whole arms dealer aspect and seeing the consequences of his actions

2 and 3 not in same league but he was awesome in Avengers Assemble. The whole Winter Soldier thing was beyond ridiculous tho

Guardians is the one I just can’t stomach on any level

I like Robert Downey Jnr. Although he has a certain acting style (or schtick), he’s one of those actors that have natural screen charisma.

He's a good actor, and more versatile than folks probably give him credit for.

He was outstanding as Iron Man/Tony Stark, but obviously that won't ever surpass the likes of Chaplin. I also liked him in lesser known things like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Judge. And a rather guilty pleasure as Sherlock Holmes.

Having watched Uncharted last night I need to add Tom Holland to this thread.

The casting team must have laughed all the way to the bank every time they got paid.

Im not a Spider-Man fan, so apart from his whiney Spider-Man cameos in other Marvel movies have never watched him as a main character before.

As I've never seen any of the Marvel movies, I didn't know of his work. But if you haven't seen this, check it out. It's a really good film, with an amazing cast, including Holland, Pattinson and Harry Melling. It's one of the best films I've seen in recent years, very disturbing and atmospheric, and I'll probably watch it again. Just going on this, I was really surprised at how good Holland, Pattinson and Melling were, all playing characters from the Deep South of America. You might reappraise your opinion if you see this.

I saw your recommendation and watched it this afternoon.

I really enjoyed it.

The style of the film reminded me a lot of 'Bad Times at the El Royal' and I was surprised not to be able to find a connection between the two films such as the writers or director.

As you say, it’s quite disturbing. It was also very unpredictable. You never know where it’s going.

Thanks

It's very good, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

It is very melancholic and I felt that Holland's character had no chance. He was doomed from the start. It's apparently from a novel, which might be worth reading.

I've never heard of the film you mentioned, so I might have to look that up, thanks.

They should have left it at the first one then, not that I was all that impressed. Shows what a sell out the actor was by doing the pointless other two.
Hated his Sherlock, the effects on that were actually good though, his accent was awful and the acting was a bit too smug for me.

He was ok in The Fugitive 2.

Never seen Sherlock, can’t stand Guy Ritchie and the books are my favourite so doesn’t need his input… but yeah I can well believe

Have you seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang?

No I don’t believe I have, I probably thought it was porn so gave it a swerve. :D

I think that I’ve come round to liking most British actors in atleast one film. Even Hugh Grant.
But one that I cannot remember liking in any of his films is Tim Roth.
