Activating 2nd Sky+ Box for Sky + features without telling Sky.

Hi Guys

Does anyone know if it is possible to activate a Sky+ box for the record feature without informing Sky?

I have just moved house and I decided to put my old sky+ box upstairs, having put in a quad LNB and extra cabling. I used the card from the standard sky box that was left there.

I can watch the freeview channels but not pause or record them as the feature is not activated.

Does anyone know how i can turn on these features?

Many Thanks

The recording feature of Sky+ is now free so if you call Sky to get your card paired with your Sky+ box you should get the recording and live pause features. There is no reason for Sky not to know you have a second Sky+ box for freeview.

Other than he will have to pay an extra tenner a month for multiroom. And get a new card, as the existing Sky card is not in his name, and is not active else he would get more than just the free channels.

OP - you can't get Sky+ without some subscription to Sky. Either a tenner a month to activate Sky+ on free channels, or a tenner to month to activate multiroom. I know which I'd go for.

If you have two boxes activated you will incure a £10 per month multi room charge, but you will get what ever is on the first box and SKY+ features.

I do know that I can pay the £10. I just wanted to use the box without paying the extra sub. I

the only way to turn the sky+ features on is to phone sky and get the card paired to the sky+ box

And to have the Sky+ sub added onto the card, which will incur the £10 charge for the sky+ features, unless he gets multiroom, which required both boxes connected to the phone line. Either way he does it it's still going to cost him £10 a month.

Does the card need to be paired to the box? I just put my HD Sky card in the box and it allowed me to record.

I guess a way round it is to get an old sky+ card that has previously been activated? Any ideas?

Can't record without pairing the two up (and activating Sky+). Just pairing the two doesn't automatically activate Sky+ features.

I agree that it should require pairing but it has been known that unpaired cards (with valid Sky+(orHD) sub on it NOT expired sub ones although again sometimes Sky have been known not to switch off Sky+) will record in other boxes.

Why would he need to pay an extra subscription? I thought you could use a freesat card in an Sky+ box and have all the Sky+ features (as long as you get Sky to register the card). It's only if he wants the same channels as on his main box that he'd have to pay the multiroom fee, isn't it?

No - can't record without a monthly Sky subscription. If the second box (and card) are Freesat then he isn't paying a monthly subscription for the second card or box. So he doesn't get Sky+ functionality for free either. Sky will activate Sky+ functionality for a tenner a month, but as has already been suggested, if he's going to spend an extra £10pm he might as well get multiroom and be able to record all channels on his Sky subscription rather than just the freebies.
