I've finally found a black AV32RDP with 7.1 so that I can abuse the action switches to power on my amplifier. It turned out the "A" switch was stuck in the closed position - it even sounded more damped when I took off the lid. Switching it on and off a dozen times or so seems to have unjammed it.
It appears that one cannot have the AV32R engage the switch whenever it is on, since at least the 5.1 bypass and the AC3-RF input will not turn the switch on when they are selected on poweron or when waking from standby, and there's no option to do so in the setup menu. Is there a workaround except triggering the switch via remote?
