Acer HD DVD Laptop

As expected Acer have introduced a HD DVD equipped laptop - the Ferrari 5005WLMi - which seems to be available for a little under £1700. A little cheaper than the Toshiba offering. Uses the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 as opposed to the Nvidia GFX on the Toshiba as well. As you'd expect HDMI is included.

Might well do - but AFAIK the only model in the UK at present is the one I linked to. I should suspect we'll see more PCs supporting HD DVD as it gets nearer to the UK launch.

Don't they also have a HD DVD laptop with a 20 inch 1080 screen?
Im actually interested in getting this laptop but i mught wait for the Core 2 Duo laptops to come through, especially as HD DVDs will proberly need the extra power.

1. will only play r2 hddvds (correct me if im wrong)
2. framerate will be choppy on laptop display and through hdmi to LCD.

HD DVD is currently region free so there is no such thing as a "region 2" HD DVD. Your HD DVD-ROM drive will be region free for HD DVD (obviously not for DVD). That's not to say it won't appear in the future though.

Hopefully some reviews will appear soon that will confirm this one way or another. The Toshiba laptop plays discs OK so it should be fine. It is, after all, the sole reason the laptop has a HD DVD drive and HDMI socket.
