Acer AT-3201W Setup

Hi,

This is my first post :hiya:

I have recently purchased the Acer AT-3201W. I have got it mounted on the wall (B-Tech BT7522 - £25 Ebay) and I am very impressed with, although I do have some questions for any fellow owners.

My DVD player is an old US Pioneer 515 (chipped for multi-region) connected via RGB cables, this player outputs NTSC as pure NTSC, I am not sure of the exact details of its PAL output, but the playback of any region DVD is excellent, smooth with no ghosting. The region 3 of Sin City (NTSC) looks great. I also have a LiteOn DVD recorder connected via S-Video and this output also looks very good.
I have Sky connected via a RGB scart and I notice some very slight stuttering on moving text, the bottom news banner on Sky Sports News is the most obvious culprit for this, has anyone else seen this? Is this something do to with my players and Sky outputing different types of PAL? Does anyone know of a cure?

I have my screen set to 'Movie' as this seems to be the best of the defaults for most of the programs I watch. Has anyone played around with the 'User' settings to get an even better picture? Has anyone run DVE with this screen, does it result in new settings? if so can you share them?

Thank you for any replies.

Tony,

Do not have Sky so can't comment on the text issues, I also have mine set to Movie, mostly view through my HTPC DVB-T (Freeview) or an external freeview box both excellent quality, use both a DVD player through scart which is excellent once the default Svideo has been changed to AV in the settings, but by far the best DVD image is from my HTPC's DVD drive.

Fan noise is still a pain how's yours?

What is DVE?

Hi Xelon,

Thanks for the reply.

DVE, as I understand it, is the Digital Video Essentials disk for calibrating screens. It is actually on this forum that I have read so much about it.

My fan is reasonably noisy, but once I have my amp up at a certain level I cannot hear it ;) I may look into replacing the fan, but I would rather have a straight replacement than having to use an adaptor. Have you looked into this at all?

Have you heard anything about possible firmware upgrades? as I did read something on here about that possibility, and this may help to cure my scrolling Sky text problem.

Have you registered your screen with Acer (for the warranty)? If so how / where did you do it?

cheers

Tony
