AL2671 @ Simply
They have it on dabs for 598.99 but they also offer a 10 months interest free option.
Acer AL2671W @ Dabs
Bourght this set from dabs.com at the start of last week (was £598 then too) I am very happy with it, mainly using it to out put from htpc via dvi. have watched some dvd's to and I am also pleased with thier performance.
Can the picture be "zoomed", without distortion/stretching to 16:9 (or actually, to 15:9) when watching 4:3 material using either internal tuner or scart ?
Don't fall for the "HDCP" claim - this set won't deliver Sky HD broadcasts when they begin.
Are you sure about this? The following is pasted from Acer's website:
AL2671W LCD-TV 26" Widescreen LCD-TV, 450 nits Brightness, 1280 x 768 Resolution, 600:1 Contrast ratio, Response time 16ms (gray to gray), PIP, 5W speakers, 170 degree viewing angle, 3D surround sound, Teletext, 2 x SCART, DVI-D with HDCP D-Sub, Composite AV EV.M0107.009
tis true that Acer have confirmed this set is HDCP compliant
bassad ! i have just ordered it from maplin then come on here to see what the thoughts on it were and see it can be had for over 40 quid cheaper
Then it's very suspicious that of the several retailers advertising this product, none of them is repeating that claim. If I were a retailer - and certain of my facts - I would want to headline it, as in "First HDTV-ready LCD for under £600!" for example. It's the lack of noise about it which sounds the alarm bells.
I believe that Acer have only very recently confirmed it is HDCP - and this is shown on the UK site
There's a review of it here
It's taken a while but Acer has contacted us to confirm that the AL2671W's DVI port is indeed HDCP compliant, which is good news for anyone in the UK wanting to watch HDTV from Sky in 2006. Acer now just needs to get the manual updated to make this clear.
Also its cheaper at Misco £587.49 inc VAT

But there were Simply Computers and werent the best retailor in the world. Maplins are good retailor for customer support
OK newbie question here - is it actually possible to plug a 'normal' TV arial (co-ax) into one of these ? I'm not up to speed on understanding all the terminology in the spec. Someone helpfully warned me off the Philips 8946 in another thread and this is looking like the most promising candidate so far. It's just that we need to get the screen in before getting digital TV so will have to rely on analogue for a cross-over period.
yes mate just about every screen sold as a tv will have a co ax connection for your standard arial
Weebroonieuk - thanks for taking the time to answer such a ridiculous question. It's just reassuring to have an view from someone who knows the territory better than I do - especially when I can't go and actually have a look at the thing.
weebroonieuk - will you be able to post some pictures once you receive the set? I am especially interested in how it displays peoples "skin tones" in comparison to the Tevion that I presently have that doesn't seem to display them too well
The way things are going, the Tevion shall be on its way back to Aldi and the Acer shall be my next set. If all else fails, I'll give this LCD malarky up as a bad job and go back to Black & White godammit!
I went to Maplins in Falkirk today to see if they had one these screens, but there were none, (i was thinking of buying a Sagem 27 lcd but it is £999).
So do you have to order one from Maplin? Or are they just waiting on stock? A postcode search indicated that there is no stock, even as far as Newcastle!!
I'm impatient to see how my Denon 1910 dvd player will perform with dvi!
medicalgiant i dont have a digi cam only my nokia 6630 which wouldnt do the screen justice (i hope!)
the review that was posted seemed to suggest it was a very good screen especialy for the price i will give my oppinions when i receivce it , although im no expert i will let u know how good gran turismo 4 looks and some dvd's and hi def content
phetttt the screens are probably sold out now , hope mine is on its way got email sayin despatched so hopefully with me tommorow or tuesday
