Thought this might be of interest.

As part of my mission to buy a DVD player, I phoned Pioneer and asked them the above question (bearing in mind the obvious SACD and DVD-A issue). According to the engineer I spoke to, he said that there is a minor difference between the two sets in that the 575 uses a better quality DAC and is 'more stable'. He said there wasn't much in it, but when asked said he thought the 575 was worth the extra tenner (470 @ £90 on-line and 575 @ £100 @ RS).

    More stable ? So the 470 isn't stable ? :)

The video DAC is built into the mediatek chip, they use the same chip

Its purely a marketing thing to have two models imo. RRP the price difference is pretty big but retail its not.

They both seem to have Mediatek MT1389EE which has 12bit/108MHz video DACs, and at least had the same version firmware of 2.09. However, I would have thought the addition of DVD-Audio & SACD alone would be well worth the extra ten quid.

The 575 has 6ch 24bit/192KHz audio DACs, ie 5.1 multi-channel out, whereas the 470 only has 2ch. Maybe the engineer meant audio DACs.

Yeah the audio is better, hence the Super CD etc but otherwise they are the same machine regardless of how Pioneer what to market them.

I got a 470 at the time £60 cheaper than a 575. If I was buying now I'd prob get the 575 as only £10 more.

Same here, would probaley get the 575 if I was buying it now but at the time the 470 did everything I wanted and didnt want to pay £30+ for features I wouldnt use.
