Seems I’ve been from pillar to post trying to nail this answer.

Just built a kick-ass HTPC with DVI output (currently connected via SVHS to my Sony 29” CRT)

I’ve been hunting around for the ideal 42”/43” plasma to team it up with. Only needs three qualities:
    1) Superb picture
    2) At least 1024 x 768 res
    3) Ability to accept DVI input

I think I’ve narrowed it down to the Panasonic TH-42PHD6B or the Pioneer PDP-434MXE but there is a nagging doubt with each screen:

Pioneer – comes with a media box. What is this exactly and do I need another box between my HTPC and the screen.
Panasonic – what is the current situation with DVI / HDMI ?

I’m leaning towards the HD Panny but can someone please reassure me that this unit has no problem accepting a DVI input with a 1:1 pixel map?

    Thanks, Adam

The Pioneer 433MXE or 43MXE-1 (not out yet) will be fine, but the HDE won't. The Panasonic has the better picture anyway (IMO of course!) and the 42PHD6 will accept native res via it's DVI card but only at 60Hz IIRC.

However, it is general consensus that the DVI image is not that much better than a VGA image, and at least with VGA you can use 50Hz for PAL material or indeed whatever refresh rate you fancy! Do yourself a search for Stoomonster's posts - there's plenty to read!!!!!!!!!

Superb, just what I needed to hear. Nice and simple! Cheers Liam!

    Will search for stoomonster's posts

Is there generally a problem with displaying PAL at 60hz??
