    Hi there!

Im about to buy some new floorstanders, to go with the following kit which I havent opened up yet :

    Cambridge Audio Azur 640 amplifier
Cambridge Audio Azur 640 CD Player
    Project Debut Phono SB turntable.

The speakers I am leaning towards at the moment are the Acoustic Energy Evo 3 ones.. they look great and have got great reviews.

Would these go well with this kit? Any other alternatives?

Thanks guys!! Any help would be appreciated!

    Have'nt opened yet !!!
I have recently bought the Evo 3's to go with my Marantz PM7200 Amp and CD7300 CD player and they sound great. The Evo's have also retained their 5 stars in the lastest What Hi-Fi Group Test if that means anything to you. Best bet is to have a listen to them and some others if you can.

Hey mate, cheers for the reply, I think i might opt for a set then, since they have got such good reviews. The only problem is theres not many hi fi shops at all round my way (except for one richer sounds!!) so I'll have to take a gamble and go down the mail order route!!

Reason they havent been opened yet is im moving into a new house in a couple of months, and want to get the setup now when I still have free cash :)

    Any other recommendations? :)

The Evo's rock m8 !! just buy them :smahsin: Look for your local Severn Oaks as they had them for sale at £250 a pair. If they have them for sale still email www.superfi.co.uk about there price matching and they will do the same price and include free postage.

Well, earlier on this afternoon, I had a good listen to a set of KEF Q4's priced at £400.

The look of them is unbelievable, really really nice, and the sound is AMAZING! It was being played though some arcam kit, but im going to bring my Azur amp and cd player on monday morning to test them out with it hopefully!

Anyone else heard/got comments on the KEF Q4's? I was completely blown away!

Yeah man in terms of value for money, the Evo's are probably better.

Just cant get over the looks, sound quality and the sheer build quality of the KEF's though!

The Q4's are very wife friendly compared to the square boxes of the evo's but i would not say the build quality is worse then the Kefs. I would advise you to listen to them and then make your mind up.:smashin:

Yep hopefully will have a chance to listen to them both :)

Will bring down my kit to test with the Q4's though, and if they sound anything like they did today I'll be well pleased :)

One question though, before I go in tomorrow - do you reckon the AZUR 640a will be enough to drive the KEF Q4's?

Im not all that technical :)

Well, im back after an extensive listening session to both the Evos and the Q4's.

The Evos are a mighty fine speaker, but as my room will not be huge, I felt they sounded a little too "boomy" if you know what I mean for my needs.

The Q4's had a lovely sound of them, and more of a balance for a smaller room! So I bought them, and am very happy indeed :)

    Cheers for the advice!!

I have the Evo 3, with which for now, I am happy, but I'm surprised that no one's mentioned the test winning JM Lab Chorus 714S. Not just because that this particular pair won the test but because their Chorus range are generally well rated speakers.

I don't know if you saw the review in WHF this month but the 640 A/C won the system group test paired up with the Epos M5. I was the panicking fool who selected the M5's with the PR guy about 5 minutes before phoning WHF with the submission (were we relieved when we saw the review!) and I have to say that they are the finest match for the Cambridge bits I've yet heard. The M5 is also a beautifully built thing with considerable WAF if that means anything to you.

Yeah I saw those, I actually tried out the Epos M5, but unfortuately they were a bit too small and not really suitable for most of the music i like, but I did consider it!

I have read the Epos M5's are good with the Cambridge Audio Azur 640's.
Has anyone tried the Epos 12.2 speakers with the Azur's or can suggest a better sound and quality pair of stand mount speakers for around £500. Would the Epos 12.2 speakers create a better sound than the Mission 781's I have at the moment.
    Thanks
