    To replace my r9 290.
I been looking at vaga 64 for a while, so now the vaga 7is out 64 must have dropped in price right? Hmm I want to watercool so reference card I found was
PowerColor vaga 64 reference at 329.99 or Asus vaga 64 499.99 out of the two I’d go for the Asus but.......less than £200 more
Would get me Sapphire vaga 7 for 630 or a little more an msi for 699
But then for £19 less than the msi v7 can get me a 2080 from evga at 680
    Or a kfa2 for 620

So now what do I do?
    I game at 1080
    Pc specs are i5 2500k
    8gb ram
    R9290 gpu

I’m thinking 2080 will last at least 4-5 years playing new games at ultra settings at 1080p

You need a better CPU before buying a new GPU.

The 2080 is going to bottleneck that 2500 all day long , so it's going to be a waste of money ,
yea it will last a good few years , but if the CPU can't keep up with the 2080 your not getting the best out of 680 quid ,
you say ryzen 3 , your going to need a mid if not high end ryzen 3 cpu to match the 2080 , new mobo and new ram , not to mention new PSU to run everything ...

I see where I slipped up I’m waiting on 3rd gen rayzen, if I was upgrading today it would be a 7 2700 or 5 2600. My 850w psu should be able to handle the 2080 as it’s load wattage is lower than the 290s 300w, I’ve only gleamed though the specs I thinks it’s around 200-300w if not I’ll have to budget for that when I upgrade.

This would be my 3rd gpu, my 1st was r6950 back in 2010 farcry 3 came out and it was struggling on mid settings. The 290 was a better buy and happily played everything at ultra or slightly less and still going 6 years later albeit at medium settings. I want a 2019 version of the 290 that will play AAA until 2025. I think that’s going to be the vaga 7 but the 2080 is a little more. I would love the vaga 64 for the price but will it last as long as the 290 give or take a few years?

You need a new CPU first.

Like I said I’m waiting till 3rd gen rayzen is out before I decide what cpu to get.

Wanted to get a gpu now so I can play some of the games I have that the 290 struggled with

As much as the CPU will bottleneck the GPU, you will still see an increase in FPS.
For 1080p I would personally go for the Vega 56, unless you plan on upgrading to a higher resolution or refresh rate monitor.
But definitely get the CPU upgraded

But wouldn’t the v64 be able to play the latest AAA titles long after the 56 having to lower settings to play the latest AAA?

For example my 290 vs titan. both can play farcry 3 ultra settings [email protected] come farcry 5 the 290 has lower settings to high whereas the titan can play fc 5 at ultra.

Also I spent my £600 gpu money on 18v 3/8 and 1/2 impact guns from Mac tools

If you're waiting for Ryzen then why not wait for Navi GPU's as well? They should perform better and be way more efficient than Vega seeing as they'll use 7nm.
