A1XVA vs Arcam DV137 - NO BIAS PLEASE!

Should the A1XVA do a better job of upscaling to 1080p than the Arcam DV137 ?

I would expect so considering the price of the Denon is double.

I not seen the Denon in action but currently have the Arcam DV137 and was wondering if 1080p upscaling can get ant better than what this player does.

Thanks

Why not arrange to audition them side by side with a local dealer? All replies you get to your query will, by their very nature, be based on personal experience and will be in some way biased. Only you can decide what looks best for your eyes with your other equipment.

Both use DVDO's ABT Scaling so you would expect their performance to be similar in that respect. The Denon has the HQV Realta chip for de-interlacing though. It also has a superb Noise Reduction feature which completely clears up any grain without causing any smearing etc.

As with most things, go check them both out and see what you think. :)

What model DVDO ABT scaling board is on the Denon?

I think the Arcam uses ABT1010 but a thread on this forum was talking about the ABT102 maybe being fitted onto Arcam's next FMJ dvd player

From that link:
" Maintains existing 480/576p, 720p and 1808i scaling options. "

Never heard of 1808i myself......

:D It's a new special format...

Have not had any issues with the Denon and i would certainly lean towards the A1XVA after all the reported problems with the Arcam :(

The Arcam seems to struggle more with NTSC dvds upscaled to any setting - SD Progressive,480p,720p,1080i and 1080p.

If i leave it at SD Interlaced then there is no motion smearing that i notice enough to call it annoying.

I would expect the Denon to improve on this.
