A/V out, but can i adapt cable to suit headphone jack?

The Sony camcorder DCR-HC90E (which i have just purchased) has A/V in and out (I'm assuming this is the cable with the red/white and yellow phonos). BUT the camera does not have an audio output for headphones.

One idea i had was whether it's possible to get an adapter for the A/V cable to allow me to plug in my headphones through connection to the A/V out lead.. ? And i'm wondering whether this is at all possible to be used when recording footage, or it it only possible on playback? :lease:

Ta muchly.
