Really enjoyed this, the first half was completely mesmerising. Yeah it got more and more overwrought and the songs all became rather on the nose(o_O), it was still a fantastic watch. Cooper delivers an all time best performance and Gaga ain’t bad either.

I really enjoyed it too in my top 10 of 2018, if not totally blown away. Both leads absolutely nail it and have the required chemistry to make it work.

Was on the fence about seeing this, but I heard the songs were performed live so this got my feet firmly planted in the go see field. Cannot stand dubbed songs/bands if they are the main feature of the film.

Expensive to pay for huge sound and image when i can watch it in more suitably intimiate confines of my home cinema room for free

...can be said about all films.

Just wondered what it was about this film that made you want to tell us you'll be avoiding it theatrically.

Two things that decide if I watch a film at movies:
A family event. Can justify the cost then.
Or cannot wait. We always watch new bond film as we all like them and cannot wait another few months.

Wife wants to see this but it seems that VUE is having some contractual issues with the rights, not a single VUE cinema has showings for the movie as yet, Cineworld and Odeon's have full schedules!

They are being rather cryptic in their twitter replies to people asking, saying it's something they are trying to sort out and it isn't technical issues!

I feel like a part of my soul has been imprinted with story.

Loved is too mild a word, I adored every millimetre of this movie, I was mesmerised from beginning to end.

      Stunning & achingly emotional.

Can’t wait for the full soundtrack to be released tomorrow on Apple Music. Because I’m wearing out the lone available track ‘Shallow’

      10/10

Might be my fave film of the year beating out Avengers infinity war which is saying something but I need to watch it a few more times, I’m probably gonna see it again this weekend.

If you like films with unabashed heart & emotion dashed with truly the bittersweet, do yourself a favour and go see this immediately

Just back from viewing and agree with most above. The first hour or so in particular had me completely absorbed, great chemistry and an excellent soundtrack.

I didn’t enjoy the music in the second half as much (although I suppose that’s the point) both leads were superb as was Sam Elliot and the film deserves acclaim with hopefully awards to follow.

I’m pretty sure some dust must have got in my eyes at one point too :(

I enjoyed the first half more than the second, in terms of the characters' situational interactions with each other. Overall though, I thought it was good.

Wasn't going to see this, but if Sam Elliot is in it then I may have to think again. What a man

Saw it last night. I agree that it was a well made film, well acted and I suspect will be in line for award nominations. In particular, Lady Gaga’s presented one of the best singer to actor transitions that I have ever seen - whether she can maintain that for non-singer roles remains to be seen (assuming that is a career direction she wants).

So did I enjoy the film. Well it was okay, the story was pretty predictable and dragged on a bit too much for my liking.

The singing was okay, strangely I was more impressed by Cooper than Gaga - not because he was better but because I didn’t expect him to be very good whereas I expected Gaga to be very good - in my opinion they were both a little short of good, which is praise for Cooper but not so much Gaga. But by the same logic Gaga scores higher than Cooper for acting.

Ironically, although I have said that the film dragged on a little for me, my one real issue was with the timeframe of the story. I felt that The predictable transition of the characters’ fortunes occurred over far too short a timeframe - you are given the impression that the whole story from start to finish happens over a period of a few months and that just seems too quick for me.

      Cheers,

      Nigel

Agree, but I don’t think the movie made best use of him and I found it difficult to understand what happened to him in the latter part of the story. I also really struggled to understand what he was saying at times.

      Cheers,

      Nigel
